Carlisle manager Greg Abbott is expecting to hold further talks with Stuart Parnaby about the former Middlesbrough defender resurrecting his career at Brunton Park.
Parnaby, 29, without a club following his release from Birmingham at the end of an injury-ravaged 2010/11 season, spent several weeks training with Abbott's squad in April and is hoping to earn a permanent deal.
"I've exchanged a few text messages and had a conversation with Stuart and he seems a lot keener in his own mind that he wants to have another go," Abbott told the club's official website.
"I'm optimistic that there might be something in that one and I'm expecting to talk to him again soon.
"We still need to know what he's looking for, but the key for me would be to get him back on the training pitch and see how he gets on.
"I don't think there's any rush or any need to make statements of intent from anyone because we need to see how comfortable and happy he will be when he gets back into the football environment.
"What I can say is that a fit and hungry Stuart Parnaby would be a fantastic addition to this club.
"Hopefully I should have some more news on this situation very soon."
