    Pears hang on Hughes' heroics

Australian opener Phil Hughes was unbeaten on 65 as Worcestershire stuttered to 98 for three at lunch against leaders and local rivals Warwickshire in their LV= County Championship Division One clash at Edgbaston.

The visitors lost Daryl Mitchell, Matt Pardoe and Moeen Ali cheaply but Hughes and Vikram Solanki (5) steered them to the interval without further losses.

Basement club Durham enjoyed some success on the second day of their match against Surrey at Chester-le-Street, with Dale Benkenstein reaching his first half-century of the championship season.

Supported by captain Paul Collingwood he went on to make 69 before being bowled by Jade Dernbach.

Durham were left on 204 for five at lunch, a lead of 75, with Collingwood 61 not out.

There was again no play before lunch at rain-hit Taunton on the second day of Somerset's game against Nottinghamshire, where the visitors are 18 for one, with only 8.1 overs bowled on Tuesday.
