Kevin Pietersen was rested from England's team to face Mumbai A at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy.
A line-up already minus Test captain Alastair Cook, first-choice wicketkeeper Matt Prior and off-spinner Graeme Swann, also turned out to be missing Pietersen. England's mercurial batsman managed just a frenetic 23 against India A on Wednesday but made a harmonious return to the team at the Brabourne Stadium, after his well-chronicled summer of discontent.
His omission here, with one match remaining in Ahmedabad before the first Test, was one of six changes from the team which drew their opening fixture on tour as stand-in captain Stuart Broad won the toss and chose to bat first.
That meant prospective Test openers Joe Root and Nick Compton would get an immediate chance to push their credentials.
