A report in The Sun has pointed out that the former Liverpool striker has collected £7,000-a-minute for the time he has spent on the pitch since joining Stoke earlier this season. That's over three times as much as City pay midfield lynchpin Toure.
A combination of rustiness and fitness troubles have meant that Owen has yet to start a match in over 14 weeks with Tony Pulis's club, and the 33-year-old has clocked up just 53 minutes of playing time.
We decided to delve a little deeper into the figures to see exactly what sort of value Owen has been providing for his new employers.
Michael Owen's pay at Stoke has been...
...£25,000 per week
...£6,839 per minute on the pitch
...£13,425 for every touch of the ball
...£362,500 for every shot at goal
...£Infinity for every goal.
If you think that's bad, at least Stoke only have Owen on a 12-month deal. His injury-ravaged four-years at Newcastle ended up costing the Magpies £494,000 for every appearance and £1.3 million for every goal their star signing made. Admittedly, however, he clocked in at a slightly more affordable £5,485 per minute during that stint.
And surely the magnificence of his Movember moustache is worth a few quid too?
