Having defended Bayern's decision to sign Spain midfielder Javi Martinez from Athletic Bilbao in a record €40 million deal, Rummenigge slammed PSG's decision to pay Sweden forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic an estimated monthly salary of £778,000 after his £16 million summer move from AC Milan.
"When I heard the salary of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, I had a stomach ache. His one year’s salary is equivalent to that of Javi Martinez’s over five years,” said Rummenigge.
Qatari businessman Al-Khelaifi insists the salary paid to Ibrahimovc represents value for money at a time when UEFA are trying to clamp down on such excessive spending.
“I think that all club leaders must respect the work of others," he said. "I can assure you that we do not have a problem with the financial fair play. There are rules and we respect them. It is better that everyone focuses on their management, not others’.
"Rummenigge? Well he must go and see a doctor. Ibrahimovic is the best striker in the world and we need him for our project.”
