Eve Muirhead, whose European champion rink had already gone out after a weak start to the tournament, edged past Italy in an extra end before silencing a vocal home crowd by beating Heather Nedohin's Canada 9-3.
However, five defeats in their 11 round robin games left them sixth overall - just one victory short of a place in the play-offs.
Sweden, Switzerland and South Korea progress to the medal stages with 8-3 records while Canada and the USA advance to a tie-breaker with seven victories.
"It's always special to beat Canada but we're a bit gutted because we could have medalled here," said Muirhead.
"We are still a young team and the pressure has been tough on us, our average age is still only 21.
