HOGAN IS NO FAN OF ARSENAL

Hulk Hogan, arguably the most famous wrestler of all-time, finds himself without a job. That’s because the WWE chose to sack him following the discovery of a video from 2007 in which he made racist insults. He’s been quick to acknowledge the show of support from far and wide with the Twittersphere defending the 61-year-old’s actions. The only problem for Hulk is that he has been retweeting the support too. That’s all well and good, but he’s clearly doesn’t know who Arsenal players Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere are, or former Gunners stars Emmanuel Eboue, Andrey Arshavin and Kolo Toure for that matter either. Random followers tweeted pictures pretending to be the footballers themselves - and Hulk clearly fell for it. There’s no end in sight for his problems it seems!

BOLT RETURN OVERSHADOWED BY ASHER-SMITH

There’s something about the Olympic Stadium in London bringing out the best in athletes. At the Anniversary Games on Friday, Usain Bolt returned to form and declared himself back as number one, while Mo Farah performed the sprinter’s trademark celebration after victory in his event. But it was on Saturday that the real magic happened as Dina Asher-Smith made it another Super Saturday. After becoming the first British female to go under 11 seconds in the 100m, she took to Twitter to declare: “10.99!!! I’ve woken up beaming” before adding: “I can’t stop smiling. Thank you all so much for your kind words, everything went crazy yesterday! Happy to have backed it up with 11.06 too!” We’ll be hearing more from this girl.

F1 STARS REMEMBER BIANCHI

There was a sombre feel to the Hungarian Grand Prix and that emotion washed over onto social media as many paid tribute to the late Jules Bianchi. The race was filled with drama as Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg had afternoons to forget. “Today was yet another test of overcoming adversity and personal mistakes. I can honestly say, it did not go to plan,” Hamilton wrote on Instagram. Disappointment for the Mercedes pair turned to joy for Red Bull’s Dani Kyvat and Daniel Ricciardo who filled the podium behind winner Sebastian Vettel. All three rightly dedicated their results to the family of Bianchi, who were present at the Hungaroring, but none more so than Ricciardo, closest of all to the fallen Marussia driver. He posted on Instagram: “It’s fair to say we all drove with a heavy heart today. I’m proud that I left it all out on track. That’s how Jules would have wanted it. So many different emotions but so happy to be back on the podium.” Jules #17 would have been proud.

KNIGHTHOOD FOR FROOME?

One or two things were pointed out on social media after Chris Froome became the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France twice on Sunday. The first was that he was winning clean – after accusations were put to him throughout this year’s Tour. The second was that Froome should be becoming Sir Chris. Twitter was awash with those pointing out Sir Bradley Wiggins received his knighthood after winning Le Tour once. So surely with two in the bag, that makes Froome destined for a date with the Queen. With MPs taking to social media to back up the case and the creation of the hashtag #SirChrisFroome, he can almost certainly get ready for an invite to Buckingham Palace.

MURRAY MOCKED BY BORUSSIA DORTMUND

Andy Murray has been mocked many times throughout his career. But for the other Andy Murray this was a first. Andy Murray the 89th (@andymurray89) is no tennis player, this one simply enjoys a game of Football Manager. When he was sacked by Borussia Dortmund, he chose to tweet something innocuous: “Sacked by @borussia_en - great! #fm15”. It was there that his problems began, because Borussia unexpectedly tweeted back: “@AndyMurray89 sorry but the results simply weren’t good enough ??” It was left to Murray, the gamer not the tennis player, to hold his hands up and accept he been done over by the Bundesliga club. “So the club I get sacked from in the game are mocking me on Twitter, that must be a first!”

NO CONFUSION NEEDED FOR GOLF STAR

Australian golfer Stuart Appleby took to Twitter to avoid getting caught up in another storm unintentionally. It’s easy to confuse Appleby with his fellow Aussie Robert Allenby - just as many did when the latter was allegedly kidnapped and beaten up earlier in the year. After Allenby sacked his caddie mid-round during the Canadian Open, Appleby was quick off the mark. “Let’s get one thing straight, yesterday I did not play golf at all or fire my caddy after 9 holes. No confusion needed. Just wanted to get in early so I can distance any potential confusion over more drama between name confusion.”
