Christie reached the semi-finals of the 500m at the short track speed skating World Championships in Debrecen but failed to progress. However, it's over double the distance that the World Cup champion has been at her best this season and the 22-year old Scot is certainly not short in confidence. But there was disappointment for British team-mate Jon Eley, the 2006 Olympic finalist, in his preferred 500m event. After crossing the line second in his semi-final, he appeared harshly disqualified for impeding a rival in the closing stages. He returned to the ice moments later to join forces with Paul Stanley, Jack Whelbourne and Richard Shoebridge in the 3,000m relay but the highly-rated quartet could only finish third in their semi-final behind Holland and Russia, with only the top two progressing. China's Liang Wenhao and Wang Meng took the men's and women's 500m titles.
