Thiago Alves Will Finish Carlos Condit or Give Him the ‘Beating of His Life’
Once a title contender in the UFC’s 170-pound division, Thiago Alves is looking to rise through the ranks again and get another shot at the welterweight title.
Recently plagued with injuries, the 31-year-old was sidelined for two years. He returned to action in April of 2014 with a unanimous decision win over Seth Baczynski in a bout that earned Fight of the Night honors. He earned a Performance of the Night bonus for his technical knockout win over Jordan Mein in his last outing at UFC 183.
On Saturday, Alves takes takes on fourth-ranked Carlos Condit in the UFC Fight Night 67 main event in Goiânia, Brazil, and doesn’t think the fight will go the distance.

“I’m going to knock him out or submit him. It’s not going to distance. If it goes the distance, he’s going to take the beating of his life,” Alves said on Thursday during the UFC Fight Night 67 open workouts.
“I plan to use everything: knees, kicks, punches, elbows. Everything I’ve got I’m going to throw at him,” he said.
Currently ranked twelfth, Alves believes a win over Condit will put him in the title hunt.
“A win over him, I’ll be the next one in line. If not, definitely one fight away from fighting for the belt. That’s the plan,” said “Pitbull.”
Fellow American Top Team member Robbie Lawler holds the UFC welterweight title. He puts his belt on the line for the first time against Rory MacDonald at UFC 189 on July 11. Alves predicts Lawler will retain the title, setting up a fight with his teammate.
And when it comes to a battle for the belt, Alves doesn't have any misgivings about fighting his teammate.
“The belt is going to stay at ATT, and hopefully we’ll get to fight for the belt.”
