Three Liverpool targets for the remainder of 2015/16 season

Win some silverware

Liverpool’s chances of finishing in the top four are looking increasingly slim following another setback in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp’s side are 12 points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City after squandering a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with struggling Sunderland on Saturday. The stalemate means Klopp and his players should focus all their energy on winning the League Cup and progressing to the latter stages of the Europa League and FA Cup. No Champions League football next year would be a disappointment, but securing their first silverware since 2012 would be a huge positive.

Solve Sturridge conundrum

What does the long-term future hold for Daniel Sturridge? That’s one of the biggest questions Klopp must answer. Sturridge returned to the match day squad for the visit of the Black Cats but didn’t feature. For too long Liverpool have been holding out for Sturridge’s return, which supposedly would inspire the Reds to bigger and better things. However, no permanent return has been achieved so far, and with each injury blow, the supporters’s faith in Sturridge diminishes. The next three months are surely make or break in Sturridge’s career as Klopp plots a Liverpool resurgence next summer.

Restore Anfield fortress

Liverpool’s Premier League form has been inconsistent under Brendan Rodgers and Klopp this season. Remarkably, Liverpool haven’t won more than two consecutive Premier League games before suffering a setback in the shape of a draw or defeat. Of even more concern is the fact that Liverpool have failed to secure back-to-back wins at Anfield this term. In 12 home games, Liverpool have only beaten Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Swansea and Leicester City. Klopp needs to restore Anfield’s air of invincibility as he looks to lay the foundations for success moving forward.
