Though the visitors kicked off with some strong play and three penalties from Rory Kockott, Jacques-Louis Potgieter put the boot in to score three of his own that complimented Gabiriele Lovobalavu’s try at the half-hour mark.
The half-time score was 16-9 and made way for a more even second half, as the two South Africans Kocout and Potgieter traded penalties.
But the hosts rammed the door shut on their visitors, who have now suffered a fifth straight defeat but are fourth on the table with 44 points.
The win gives Bayonne a 12-point gap between them and the relegation zone.
