Wesley Fofana scored two tries in the opening half hour to put the home side firmly in charge, with Napolioni Nalaga scoring two more in the second half while Jean-Marcellin Buttin and Benson Stanley also touched down as Clermont cruised to a the bonus point win.
The win temporarily cut Toulon's lead at the top of the table to just two points, buts Clermont's hopes of closing the gap on their rivals were dashed as the league leaders cut loose in a superb display as they beat Perpignan 46-13 in the late kick-off match on Saturday night.
Two tries apiece by David Smith and Perrick Gunther, together with a stunning 10 successful kicks at goal by Jonny Wilkinson, gave the home side a crushing victory to remain seven clear.
Toulouse came out on top in the battle of the third and fourth placed teams as they beat Castres 18-16 away to secure third place, three points head of Castres.
Castres got off to a perfect start when Marc Andreu scored a try after just eight minutes, but the superb kicking of Lionel Beauxis - who landed six penalties - helped Toulouse take the match.
Montpellier closed to within two points of Castres in fifth spot with a crushing 54-16 win over Stade Francais which saw them run in six tries.
Valentin Courrent kicked four penalties and a conversion as Grenoble eased to a 19-9 win over Bordeaux, while Racing Metro earned a bonus point as they crushed Agen 40-6.
And finally Biarritz survived a late onslaught from Top 14 whipping boys Mont -de-Marsan as they held on to win 19-18 and deny their hosts what would have been just their second win of the season.
