White fails in Crucible bid

White, who made the final at the Crucible six times but never won the title, lost 10-8 to Liu Chang of China to dash his hopes of another appearance at the marquee event.

Luca Brecel edged closer to becoming the youngest player to appear at the World Championship after a 10-9 win over Michael Holt.

The 17-year-old Belgian is now just one historic win away from the Crucible. He faces Mark King over the weekend.

Brecel will be joined in the final round of qualifying by Joe Jogia, who beat Igor Figueiredo 10-7, while China's Cao Yupeng came from behind to beat Nigel Bond 10-7.

Liang Wenbo, also of China, made it through with a 10-3 win over Justin Astley, and there were also wins for David Gilbert, David Morris, Peter Lines, Jamie Burnett and Alfie Burden.
