Last weekend at Sonoma, WTCC General Marcello Lotti had meetings with Ali Arsham, promoter of the United States Touring Car Championship, and Henry Krausz, President of the Dominican National Sporting Authority that promotes the Dominican Touring Series.
“I am quite pleased that both, Ali and Henry, agreed on opening their series to the WTCC-spec cars. This further enhances the FIA’s strategy to expand the S2000 technical regulations to national championships worldwide,” Lotti said.
USTCC’s Ali Arsham added: “From next year we will accept the WTCC cars in both the current (1.6L turbo) and the old (2.0L normally aspirated) configurations.
"They will race alongside our standard categories and we will put in place a system to balance the performance on track.”
Henry Krausz concluded: “Right now the former WTCC 2.0-litre cars – BMW, SEAT, Honda and Chevrolet – are the backbone of DTS.
"From 2013 we will open to the new 1.6L turbo cars as well.”
