Anthony Davis Biography
Despite having spent only one season in college, the top overall pick in June's NBA draft was the first player without pro experience to even be considered for a U.S. Olympic team since Christian Laettner in 1992. Originally added to the preliminary U.S. roster following injuries to big men Dwight Howard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Chris Bosh, Davis was a late addition to the final roster after Blake Griffin went down with a torn meniscus just two weeks before the Games. Davis fills a big need in the frontcourt with Tyson Chandler being the only other center on the squad. He has superior leaping ability and a 7-foot-4 wingspan, having led Division I with 4.7 blocks per game this season. The consensus NCAA national player of the year is coming off a freshman year in which he led Kentucky to a national championship and was named the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player. Davis was among the national leaders in rebounding (10.4) and double-doubles (20) while topping the Wildcats with 14.2 points per game. He's unlikely to be looking to score much in London, where he will be relied upon more for rebounding and defense. However, he possesses the skills of a guard, having played that position in high school before growing seven inches from his junior to senior years. Shortly after that growth spurt came Davis' only previous USA Basketball experience, playing for the junior national select team which defeated the world select team at the 2011 Nike Hoop Summit. Known for his famous unibrow, Davis trademarked the phrases 'Fear The Brow' and 'Raise The Brow' shortly before being drafted by the New Orleans Hornets.
