Asjha Jones

When Jones was given the final roster spot on the U.S. women's team in late April, it left coach Geno Auriemma with half of the 12-woman squad having played for him at the University of Connecticut. Versatility and experience were key reasons Jones was added to the group. A 10-year WNBA veteran with significant playing time abroad, Jones is a solid defender, rebounder and passer out of the post who consistently hits mid-range jumpers. She's averaged more than 15 points and six rebounds in three of the past five WNBA seasons with the Connecticut Sun. Jones' only Team USA experience in meaningful competition came during a gold-medal run at the 2010 world championships, where she averaged 5.1 points on 57.9 percent shooting despite playing the second-fewest minutes. An ankle injury suffered late in the 2007 season is a big reason she didn't make the '08 team that went to Beijing, and health issues plagued her again in 2009 and '10. However, Jones came back last year to start every game in a season for the first time. The two-time All-Star helped Auriemma's UConn teams claim championships in 2000 and '02, but she's yet to win one as a professional.
