Carli Lloyd Biography
A major offensive piece to the U.S., Lloyd is an attacking midfielder who plays behind the forwards and is capable of setting up her teammates as well as scoring from distance. She has extensive experience and has come up with clutch goals throughout her career. The most important of all her tallies came in overtime to give the U.S. the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics with a 1-0 win over Brazil. She was a member of each of the last two World Cup teams but scored just once in 2011 and missed her penalty kick as the U.S. fell to Japan in the final. She converted her attempt from the spot in a dramatic win over Brazil in the quarterfinals. Lloyd had six goals and three assists during CONCACAF qualifying for the Olympics, as the U.S. cruised through five games by outscoring opponents 38-0. While her national team career has been impressive, she hasn't thrived at the club level. She played for three teams in the WPS but totaled just four goals in three seasons. Still, she's one of the most exciting and dynamic players in the world and her offensive play will be vital if the U.S. is going to claim a third consecutive gold medal in London.
