Momir Ilic Biography
Ilic was named MVP at the 2012 European championships after he scored 34 goals and helped host Serbia finish a surprising second, losing to Denmark in the title game. It marked the first handball medal for Serbia as an independent nation, and the team has since become a sensation within the country. His eight goals in a 26-22 semifinal win over arch-rival Croatia sent Serbian fans into rapture. The star-making performance took place before a crowd of 20,000 in Belgrade in a tense atmosphere with more than 5,000 police officers summoned to prevent hooliganism. Ilic currently plays for German club THW Kiel, which is enjoying a record-setting season in the Bundesliga and is in contention for the EHF Champions League title as well.
