Rene Toft Hansen Biography
Hansen was named to the all-tournament team at the 2012 European championships as the best pivot as Denmark won its second title by beating host nation Serbia 21-19 in the title game. His first major taste of national team success came in the 2011 world championships as he helped the Danes to a silver medal. He first played for the Danish national team in 2005, and is the older brother of fellow handball star Henrik Toft Hansen - who plays the same position. Rene Hansen has spent his entire pro career in Denmark, first with Aalborg-based Aab Handball and currently with AG Kobenhavn. Hansen was not part of Denmark’s squad that lost in the quarterfinals of the 2008 Beijing Games, and a strong performance in London could help kick-start his club career to a lucrative move to Germany or Spain.
