Gevrise Emane Biography
Emane will be making her second Olympic appearance after a first-round exit in the 70-kilogram weight class at the Beijing Games, but she is expected to stick around a lot longer in London after dropping down to 63. The Cameroon native has emerged as the top rival to Japan's Yoshie Ueno since making the switch two years after the 2008 Games. She ended Ueno's two-year stranglehold on the world championship title with a victory via unanimous decision in 2011, a spectacular improvement after a first-round exit in the weight class one year earlier. Emane is still ranked second to Ueno, but will arrive in London with plenty of confidence given her six titles in seven events since the start of last season. In addition, she has beaten Ueno in all three of their head-to-head matches. She won a title in Warsaw in February and the European Championships in April, giving her four Euro titles total _ two at 63 kilograms and two at 70. Emane also has a world title and world runner-up finish at 70, and eight overall titles and two second-place finishes since dropping to 63.
