Ilias Iliadis Biography
Ranked No. 1 in the world in the -90 kilogram weight division, this former Olympic gold medalist heads to London looking to make up for a disappointing showing at the 2008 Games in Beijing. After cruising through the competition en route to a first-place finish in the -81 kg class in 2004 in Athens at just 17 years of age, Iliadis was eliminated in Beijing after losing his first and only match. While Iliadis is expected to medal at the 2012 Games, he's coming off back-to-back fifth-place finishes at the IJF Grand Slam Tokyo Jigoro Kano Cup in December and IJF Masters Almaty a month later. In addition to his two European championships, Iliadis is a two-time world champion, taking home the gold in 2010 and 2011. The Greek judoka is also a two-time silver medalist at the worlds.
