Athlete Biography
The veteran coxswain will participate in her third and final Olympics after helping the U.S. win silver in the eight in 2004 and gold in Beijing, and that crew was named the world rowing female crew of the year. Whipple and the U.S. crew return to Eton Gorney after setting a world record (5:55.50) there in 2006 - the first of the Americans’ six consecutive world championship victories in the eight. Whipple was part of the crew that broke that mark at the 2012 World Rowing Cup. Whipple will be participating in her last Olympics because she’s getting married a month after the Games. Her twin sister, Sarah, is an assistant coach at the University of California, Berkeley.
