Daryl Szarenski Biography
Szarenski is set to appear in his fourth Olympics and could be poised for his best finish yet. The 44-year-old pistol shooter hasn’t placed higher than 13th in any of his three previous appearances, but has experienced some success recently in other competitions. He won a gold medal in the 10-meter air pistol and a silver in the free pistol competition at the Pan Am Games. Szarenski also took gold in the 50-meter free pistol during the 2010 World Cup finals, collecting a combined four medals in three different stops on the tour. Just before competing in Beijing, he claimed the first World Cup medal - a bronze - in eight years by a U.S. shooter in the 50-meter free pistol. The Sgt. 1st Class has been a member of the Army’s World Class Athlete program since 1979. His wife, Amy, was a former member of the U.S. pistol team and his brother, Dan, was an all-American rifle shooter from 1976-79 at the U.S. Military Academy.
