Katerina Emmons Biography
In between a marriage and the birth of her first child, Emmons had a splendid performance in Beijing and will seek another in London. The daughter of two-time world champion Petr Kurka and wife of U.S. gold medalist Matt Emmons won her own gold medal and a silver in 2008 for the Czech Republic. She also posted a perfect score of 400 in the qualifying round of the 10-meter air rifle in Beijing and finished with an Olympic-record 503.5 points. She was 2.7 points shy of earning another gold in the 50-meter, three positions. Emmons claimed a bronze medal in the 10-meter event during the Athens Games, and met her future husband at a beer garden after he shot at the wrong target and lost out on the chance for a gold medal. The two were married in 2007 and welcomed a daughter, Julie, in 2009. A year later, Emmons helped her husband overcome thyroid cancer. In addition to her three Olympic medals, Emmons won a world title in the 10-meter air rifle in 2002 and finished second in 2006.
