Aya Terakawa Biography

Terakawa qualified for her second Olympics by winning the 100-meter backstroke at the national championships in a Japanese record time of 59.10 seconds. She finished eighth in the 200 backstroke at the 2004 Athens Games but did not compete in Beijing. Terakawa's greatest international achievement came at the 2011 world championships, where she won a silver medal in the 50 back - a non-Olympic event - at the age of 26 as the oldest member of the Japanese team. She was named one of the top 11 beauties heading to the London Olympics by Pantene, an official sponsor of the 2012 Games.
