David Storl Biography
Storl's athletics career began in the decathlon, but he turned to the shot put in 2006 at age 16. The switch couldn't have worked out much better, as Storl won gold at the 2007 World Youth Championships and continued to excel from there. He repeated that title in 2008 and won gold at the European Juniors in 2009, but his biggest accomplishments to date came in 2011. Storl won his first major senior medal - a silver - in the European Athletics Indoors, then took gold in the European U23 and world championships. He followed that with a silver in the 2012 world indoors. Despite not having any previous Olympic experience, Storl should be a serious contender this summer in London to give Germany its first medal in the shot put since Ulf Timmermann won gold for East Germany at the 1988 Seoul Games.
