Isiah Young Biography

There are many athletes who will head to London without any Olympic experience, but Young is one of the few who has precious little experience in his own sport. Young was a weightlifter in high school before getting turned on to running, and he won a sprint double in the 100-meter and 200-meter events at the 2009 USATF Junior Olympics. That success led him to Ole Miss, where he did little in his first few seasons. Young won the 200 at the 2012 SEC championships in a school-record 20.32 seconds, but finished a disappointing fourth at the 2012 NCAA outdoor championships. He didn't let that result bother him, though, as he placed third at the U.S. Olympic trials in June - grabbing the last spot on the team with a time of 20.16 seconds, one one-hundredth better than fourth-place finisher Calesio Newman. "I just believed in my coach telling me I was here for a reason and I just finished strong," Young said. He won't be a favorite to wind up on the medal stand, but one has to figure London won't be the last Olympic experience for Young.
