Michelle Carter Biography

Experienced shot put athlete Carter will be competing at her second Olympic Games. USA junior champion in 2003 and 2004 and world junior champion in 2004, Carter also has three national championships under her belt, winning in 2008, 2009 and 2011. She heads to London as the second-ranked American athlete having picked up silver at the USA indoor championships, outdoor championships and U.S. trials in 2012. Having failed to medal at any international tournament in her career going into this Olympic year, Carter announced herself as an outside medal contender for London when she won bronze at the 2012 world indoor championships. Belarus' Nadzeya Ostapchuk and New Zealand's Valerie Adams are the favorites in the event, while compatriot Jillian Camarena-Williams is the top-ranked American shot putter.
