Danielle Scott-Arruda Biography
Scott-Arruda is the first U.S. volleyball player - male or female - to make a fifth Olympic appearance as she vies for a second medal to go with her silver from Beijing in 2008. She made key contributions as part of a front-line rotation at the World Grand Prix, averaging 2.50 points and 1.35 kills per set as the U.S. won its third straight title. The middle blocker has been a mainstay with the national team since 1994 and was a reserve on the 2011 World Cup squad that finished second and clinched a spot for London. Scott-Arruda missed most of the 2010 international season to give birth to her first child. In Beijing in 2008, she finished with 85 points in eight matches as the United States won its first medal since 1992. In Atlanta in 1996, she started the final two matches as the United States placed seventh and had a team-high 33 blocks in the 2000 Sydney Games to help the United States finish fourth. Four years later, she was co-leader on the team with 15 blocks in Athens, which was also good for seventh overall. Scott-Arruda was the first Big West player to earn all-conference honors in two sports, doing so in volleyball and basketball for Long Beach State. With the 49ers, she was a three-time AVCA All-American. At the club level, Scott-Arruda has been with Brazilian team BMG/Sao Bernardo since 2010 and also has played in Italy and Japan.
