  • 46 England (Steyn 4-1-1-1-4): Colly drives the ball through midwicket to bring up his century. Morgan drives hard down the ground and it pins the umpire. VICTORY! That must have hurt. Morgan whips the ball over midwicket to seal the win. Well played England.

  • 45 England 241-3 (McLaren nb-2-1-0-0-6-4): Morgan skies a full toss and is caught, but he stands his ground and the umpires rule it was over waist height. It's all going England's way. BANG! Morgan helps the ball on its way, a long way, over suare leg for six. Morgan smashes the ball down the ground for four and England are cantering to victory.

  • 44 England 226-3 (Steyn 1-4-4nb-0-2-1-4): Morgan flashes and flashes hard and is rewarded. The edge flies to third man for four. A horrid misfield gifts four off the next ball and it's also a no-ball. Morgan clubs the free hit to mid off and is caugth but it's not out. Brillian batting from Colly who lifts the ball over third man for four.

  • 43 England 209-3 (McLaren 1-0-0-0-0-0): A good over from McLaren but England will be happy to see Morgan get himself in before launching the attack.

  • 42 England 208-3 (Langeveldt 0-4-W-0-0-1): Langeveldtr drops short and Trott swats it square for four. WICKET! Trott goes to repeat the dse but does not time it and Amla takes a good catch on the fence at square leg. A grat knock from Trott.

  • 41 England (VDM 1-0-6-1-1): BANG! VDM is back on and he's smashed high over midwicket for six by Colly. Why he brought VDM back i do not know. LIVE SCORECARD

  • 40 England (Langeveldt 0-1-1-1-0-0): Huge shout for lbw against Trott, he was right back and it looked so close but the umpire said no.

  • 39 England 191-2 (Steyn 1-0-4-1-1-2): A bit of width from Steyn and Colly drives it over cover for four. Brilliant stuff.

  • 38 England 182-2 (Langeveldt 2-1-4-0-0-1): Langeveldt drops short and Colly helps it round the corner for four. Very poor bowling.

  • 37 England 174-2 (Steyn 1-0-0-1-0-0): Another super over from Steyn but he is being given little support and England can afford to be watchful against the South African paceman.

  • 36 England 172-2(McLaren 1-1-2-4-1-1): McLaren offers a bit of width and Colly drives through cover for two and the following ball he cuts hard through point for four. The good work of Steyn has been undone. Drinks time.

  • 35 England 162-2 (Steyn 0-0-1-0-0-1): Steyn is back and this looks like the Proteas' last gambit. Smith needs wickets. Steyn is a threat as he beats both batsmen outside off stump but no wickets.

  • 34 England 160-2 (Duminy 1-0-1-0-2-0): Colly goes for a reverse sweep and is lucky not to lose his leg stump. There's no need for that sort of shot. LIVE SCORECARD

  • 33 England 157-2 (VDM 1-1-1-0-1-1): VDM at least gets the ball in the right area, but he can't stem the tide.

  • 32 England 151-2 (Duminy 1-1-0-1-0-1): Can't quite work out these tactics for SA, they seem to be waiting for something to happen rather than attacking.

  • 31 England 147-2 (0-4-1-1-1-0): Another poor ball from VDM and Trott whips it to midwicket for four. Why is he bowling? Total filth.

  • 30 England 140-2 (Duminy 0-1-1-1-1-1): Without breaking out of a walk, England pick up five off the over and South Africa have no answers at this stage.

  • 29 England 135-2 (VDM wd-0-1-0-1-0-1): Coly gets a bottom edge to fine leg and it brings him his 50. Super batting. LIVE SCORECARD

  • 28 England 131-2 (Duminy 0-0-2-1-1-0): Super batting from Colly who chips the ball into the leg side for 2.

  • 27 England 127-2 (Langeveldt 0-0-0-0-nb-6-1): Colly goes for a big heave and misses, the ball misses the off stump by a whisker. NO BALL! Langeveldt oversteps and it's a free hit. Poor discipline as he's miles over. BOOOOOOM! Colly goes for the big hit and gets plenty, he spanks it high over long-on.

  • 26 England 119-2 (VDM 1-1-1-4-0-1): Trott works the ball into the leg side to bring up his first 50 at one-day international level. Poor ball from VDM and Colly whips it fine for four. I'm going to tempt that fella called fate again: England are cruising.

  • 25 England 111-2 (Langeveldt 1-0-2-1-0-0): Trott gets through for 2 by the narrowest of margins, he looked to be struggling but got home. England DON'T want a run out.

  • 24 England 107-2(VDM 0-1-1-2-1-1): The word on the street is if Trott is warned again England will incur a five-run penalty. I don't want to tempt fate but England look very good here.

  • 23 England 101-2 (Steyn 0-1lb-1-0-4-4): A short ball from Steyn gets through Colly and catches him on the shoulder. Trott has been given a warning for delaying tactics. Colly releases the pressure by hosting a bouncer over midwicket. That brings up the 50 partnership. Consecutive boundaries as Colly whips a full ball through midwicket. Glorious shot to bring up the 100.

  • - Smith wants a wicket and brings back Steyn

  • 22 England 91-2 (VDM 1-1-2-1-1-1): Seven off the over and England did that without any alarm. This partnership is looking good for England.

  • 21 England 84-2 (Morkel 0-1-1-1-0-4): A good end to the over for England as Trott whips a straight ball over midwicket for 4.

  • 20 England 77-2 (VDM 0-1-1-1-wd-1-1): VDM continues with the line on leg stump and England are not tempted into anything stupid just yet.

  • 19 England 71-2 (Morkel 0-0-1-1-1-1): Tight again from Morkel and that wicket of Pietersen has clerly boosted his confience. CLOSE! Colly drives the ball crisply and sets off for a single, Steyn takes aim and the throw misses by a whisker. It would have been close had it hit.

  • 18 England 67-2 (McLaren 1-0-4-0-1-0): McLaren drops a little short and it's not the thing to do at his pace, Trott helps it on its way for four.

  • 17 England 61-2 (VDM: 0-0-0-1-wd-wd-0): VDM looks like he is going to bowl a line very tight to leg stump and it could be difficult to work away. Drinks are called.

  • - South Africa bring on the spin on Van der Merwe (VDM)

  • 16 England 58-2 (Morkel 0-0-0-0-1-1): The Proteas are tightning the screw and England could find the rate climbing if they are not careful, but one big partnership will help.

  • 15 England 56-2 (McLaren 0-0-2-0-0-0): McLaren offers a bit of width and Collingwood cuts well but Amla comes round from third man to save two runs on the fence.

  • 14 England 54-2 (Morkel 0-1-1-1-1-1): Colingwood shows some aggression by coming down the track but he does not middle it. Good intent though.

  • 13 England 49-2 (McLaren 0-0-0-wd-1-0-0): Collingwood is a lucky boy as he gets a bottom edge on a cut and it misses off stump by a whisker.

  • 12 England 47-2 (Morkel wd-4-1-W-0-1-nb-0): Poor start from Morkel who drops short and Trott swats it over midwicket for four. WICKET! What a comeback from Morkel to claims the big wicket of KP. Pietersen goes for the big drive but an inside edge drags into the stumps. Collingwood is off the mark with a single.

  • 11 England (McLaren 0-0-0-0-wd-0-1): A solid over from McLaren but is seems England are happy to consolidate for the moment.

  • 10 England 37-1 (Langeveldt 0-0-0-0-4-0): Langeveldt strays on to Kp's pads and that's not the place to bowl as he whips it through midwicket for a buondary.

  • 9 England 33-1 (McLaren 0-4-0-0-wd-0): Poor bowling but good batting as McLaren strays too straight and with fine leg up, Trott whips the ball for four. The old pro's trick as Boucher appears for a catch behind but the umpire signals wide.

  • - A change of bowling as Smith looks to take the pace off the ball with McLaren.

  • - Pietersen walks out and big boos greet him. He'll love, KP.

  • 8 England 28-1 (Langeveldt 1-0-1-0-0-W): A quick bouncer from Langeveldt and Strauss sensibly thinks better of going for the hook. WICKET! Strauss looks to work the ball into the leg side but is through the shot too soon and a leading edge squirts to De Villiers at point. A big wicket and it wakes the home crowd from their slumber.

  • 7 England 26-0 (Steyn 1-0-0-0-0-1): A solid over from Steyn, but England look pretty comfortable.

  • 6 England 24-0 (Langeveldt 1-0-4-0-0-0): Strauss is in prime form and he comes a yard down the track and drives the ball gloriously through cover for four.

  • 5 England 19-0 (Steyn 0-1-4-0-1-1): Trott walks down the track but is made to look a bit of a mug as the pace from Steyn goes right through him and misses off stump by a whisker. BAM! Strauss is a different proposition and he rocks on to the back foot and pulls a short ball away for four. LIVE SCORECARD

  • 4 England 12-0 (Langeveldt 4-0-0-1-1-0): Short ball from Langeveldt and Strauss smaashes it through backward point for four.

  • 3 England 6-0 (Steyn 0-0-4-0-0-0): Steyn is making it talk, as the ball rears off a length and beats Trott's outside edge. A good response from Trott who works a short ball through midwicket for four.

  • 2 England 2-0 (Langeveldt 0-1-0-0-0-0): Good shot for no runs from Strauss, who slams a ball into the covers but Petersen makes the stop.

  • 1 England 1-0 (Steyn 0-0-0-0-0-1): A shot across the bows first up, as Steyn beats Trott outside off stump with a ball that pitches and leaves the rigth hander. Trott scampers through for a quick single to get England off the mark.

  • - The players are back on the field and it will be Steyn with the new ball.

  • 50 South Africa 250-9 (Bresnan 1-1-0-4-1-1): Langeveldt opens his shoulders and slices the ball over backward ponit for four. Boucher drives the final ball for a single to take his side to 250. It's a good effort in the circumstances. LIVESCORECARD

  • 49 South Africa 242-9 (Mahmood nb-1-1-6-1-1-wd-W): Saj starts the penultimate over with a beamer. It was an accident but did not look good. He's hurt himself more than anything as he's gone down with cramp. BOOM! Steyn strikes down the ground, Colly comes in off the fence to take the catch but comes in too far and the ball goes over his head and the rope for six. WICKET! Steyn goes for the big hit again but an edge flies to Trott at midwicket.

  • 48 South Africa 230-8 (Bresnan 0-1-1-1-1-1): Bresnan is showing maturity beyond his years as despite seeing Boucher looking to attack he keeps his composure and bowls an excellent line and length.

  • 47 South Africa 225-8 (Anderson 1-1-W-1-1-1): WICKET! England continue to take wickets and Van der Merwe picks out Bresnan at midwicket looking to go over the top.

  • 46 South Africa 220-7 (Bresnan 1-4-0-0-1-1): A touch of width from Bresnan and Boucher lofts the ball over extra cover for four. Bresnan comes back well and at this rate England will be chasing less than 250.

  • 45 South Africa 213-7 (Anderson 4-1-1-1-0-1): Anderson goes for the yorker again, but it's a low full toss and Boucher whips it through midwicket for four.

  • 44 South Africa 205-7 (4-1-1-W-0-0): Bresnan gets a little inswing but it probably counts against him as Petersen flicks the ball through midwicket for four. WICKET! Bresnan comes back superbly and takes off the top of off stump to remove Petersen. Classical bowling from Bressy.

  • - Bresnan is back for England. He bowled superbly early on.

  • 43 South Africa 199-6 (Anderson 4-1-1-2-1-0): Anderson gets his length wrong and a low full toss is flicked away for four. A good finish to the over as Boucher is beaten outside off stump. A late flury from South Africa could tip the balance their way. It's well poised at the moment.

  • - The Proteas take the batting power play.

  • 42 South Arica 190-6 (Mahmood 1-1-1-1-1-1): Petersen strokes the ball away to bring up his 50. It's been a good and timely knock as far as the Proteas are concerned.

  • - Trott is out of the attack and it's the extra pace of Mahmood.

  • 41 South Africa 184-6 (Collingwood 1-0-1-0-1-0): DROP! Strauss has shelled another absolute cuckoo. A full toss from Colly is stroked straight to Strauss at short cover. He did not have to move, it went at no pace but somehow he put it down. He's dropped three now and two of them have been sitters. Maybe he needs to get rid of the sunglasses, or get a pair of proper glasses.

  • 40 South Africa 181-6 (Trott 2-4-1-0-0-1): Finally a boundary off Trott, it's a bad ball on leg stump and Petersen tickles it fine for four

  • 39 South Africa 173-6 (Collingwood 0-1-1-0-0-0): A huge appeal for lbw from Colly, he is convinced it's pad first, but it looked to strike him outside the line. Good decision from the umpire

  • 38 South Africa 171-6 (Trott 0-0-0-1-0-0): I'm waving the white flag now, it's obvious that Trott is the greatest bowler since Glenn McGrath as he ties them in knots yet again. DROP! Strauss puts one down at cover, but it would have been a beauty diving to his right.

  • 37 South Africa 170-6 (Collingwood 0-W-1-0-0-4): WICKET! Collingwood drops short, Morkel goes for the pull but does not get all of it and Morgan takes a superb running catch on the fence. That's a huge wicket for England. BOOM! Colly drops slightly short and Petersen pulls the ball away through midwicket. LIVE SCORECARD

  • 36 South Africa 165-5 (Trott 0-0-0-1-0-1): Trott must be doing something that i can't pick up. He's winging it down at 72mph and it's doing nothing, yet they can't hit him off the square. I'm padding up as we speak, let me at him.

  • 35 South Africa 163-5 (Anderson 1-1-0-1-0-1): Excellent bowling from Anderson and England are in a quality position. I think he needs to whip Trott out of the attack. He's done his job, now take him off.

  • 34 South Africa 159-5 (Trott 0-0-1-0-0-1): A slower ball from Trott and Petersen pulls the ball away but Morgan makes an excellent sliding stop at midwicket. Two off the over from Trott and i'm flabergasted, four overs have cost just ten runs.

  • 33 South Africa 157-5 (0-1-1-W-0-2): WICKET! The bowling change works, McLaren goes for the big drive but gets an outside edge and Prior does the rest.

  • - Anderson is back into the attack, he's got to bowl better than his first spell.

  • 32 South Africa 153-4 (Trott 0-0-1-1-1-1): A push into the covers brings up the 150 but they're still not having a dart at Trott.

  • 31 South Africa 149-4 (Collingwood 2-6-1-1-1-0): BOSH! Petersen opens his shoulders, comes down the ground and lofts the ball over long off for a maximum.

  • 30 South Africa 138-4 (1-1-1-0-0-0): I don't care what position South Africa are in, they should spanking Trott around the park. Three off the over at a very friendly pace.

  • 29 South Africa 135-4 (Collingwood 0-0-0-0-0-1): England were a little sloppy in the field early on but they have stepped it up in the last few overs. They can turn the screw now.

  • 28 South Africa 134-4 (0-0-0-1-2-0): Let's just say Trott's bowling looks a little friendly. But with gour wickets down it might not be a bad time to bowl the dobber. LIVE SCORECARD

  • - England turn to Trott for his first bowl in international cricket.

  • 27 South Africa 131-4 (Collingwood 1-0-0-1-0-W): Big shout for lbw, but umpire Jerling says no. It looked to me as if he nicked it, but he didn't and the replay suggested it was taking leg stump. DROP! Collingwood of all people puts down a caught and bowled. After taking a stunner he shells an admittedly tough chance. WICKET! The following ball, the ball bounces on Amla and he pushes the ball to Strauss who makes no mistake this time. It all happened in that over.

  • 26 South Africa 129-3 (Wright 0-1-1-1-4-2): A rare bad ball from Wright, short on leg stump and Petersen pulls it away for four.

  • 25 South Africa (Rashid 2-1-0-1-0-2): A good over from Rashid, but he still goes for six due to some superb running. Amla and Petersen are very quick.

  • 24 South Africa 114-3 (Wright: 1-W-0-1-2-0-): WICKET! Wright gets the wicket his bowling has deserved. Duminy goes to run the ball to third man, but gets it too thin and Prior takes the catch.

  • 23 South Africa 110-2 (Rashid 1-1-1-1-4-6): Amla strokes the ball through cover to bring up his 50. He's batted very well. Top batting from Duminy who gets out the reverse and flips it away for four. SMASH! I though Duminy had his eye on Rashid as he comes a yard down and whips it over midwicket for six. There were no bad balls from Rashind but went for 14. LIVE SCORECARD

  • 22 South Africa (Wright 0-0-1-0-1-0): Another super over from Wright, he's the new Andrew Flintoff. He just needs a bottle of bud in one pocket and a can of red bull in the other and he'd be well set.

  • 21 South Africa 94-2 (Rashid 1-0-1-4-1-0): Sloppy work from Morgan on the fence, who is in contact with the rope when flicking the ball back and it's a boundary. A steady over from Rashid but you get the feeling Duminy wants to go after the leggie.

  • - England toss the ball to Rashid. What will the Proteas plan be? MATCH GALLERY

  • 20 South Africa 87-2 (Wright 1-1-1-1-0-0): There's nothing flashy about Wright's bowling but he is doing the right things by eeping it in that corridor just outside off stump.

  • 19 South Africa 83-2 (Mahmood 0-wd-1-0-1-1-2): DROP! And it's a bad one, it's so bad my mother would have pouched it. Duminy pushes the ball to Strauss at short cover and it's a cuckoo but he grounds it. A shocker. Saj takes his cap and hits it against his thigh; he's every right to be upset.

  • 18 South Africa (Wright 1-0-1-0-0-0): A good over from Wright and England are well placed. When will Strauss toss the ball to Rashind and will the Proteas attack him?

  • 17 South Africa 75-2 (Mahmood 0-1-0-1-0-1): Big appeal for a catch down the leg side, the umpire suggests it flicks off Duminy's leg and the replays show the umpire to be spot on. I'm not a huge fan of umpire Jerling, but credit where it's due. Extraordinary shot from Amla who goes down to duck but gets in a tangle and opts to hook on one knee. It gets him a single and brings a smile to everyone's face. LIVE SCORCARD

  • 16 South Africa 72-2 (Wright 1-1-0-4-0-): Wright drops short and Duminy takes up the challenge, he gets a top edge but plenty of it and it goes one bounce for four.

  • 15 South Africa 66-2 (Mahmood 0-0-0-0-2-0): Much better fielding on this occasion from Morgan who chases down a ball on the fence and saves two runs. The second power play is done and the game is well balanced.

  • 14 South Africa 64-2 (Wright 0-1-0-0-0-0): An excellent over from Wright, good line just outside off stump and the batters give it the respect it deserves.

  • - Change of bowling, Wright is into the attack.

  • 13 South Africa 63-2 (Mahmood 0-0-0-0-4-0): Mahmood overpitches with width and it's a mistake to a player of Duminy's class, or someone of my class for that matter, as it is creamed through cover for four.

  • 12 South Africa 59-2 (Bresnan 0-0-4-0-wd-0-0): Amla looks to come a yard down the track, Bresnan sees him coming and digs the ball in short and it almost catches out the batsman. Width from Bresnan and Amla does not hold back, crashing the ball through backward point for four. Good response from Bresnan who beats Amla outside off stump. This is a good contest.

  • 11 South Africa 54-2 (Mahmood 0-4-4-0-0-0): Mahmood overpitches and Duminy gives it what is deserves, a drive down the ground for four. You get the feeling South Africa fancy getting at Mahmood as Duminy strokes the following ball through mid-on for four.

  • - The second power play is taken and Saj Mahmood is into the attack.

  • 10 South Africa 46-2 (Bresnan 0-1-0-0-0-2): The first power play comes to an end and England will be well pleased with their efforts.

  • 9 South Africa 43-2 (Anderson 0-0-W-wd-wd-0-0-3): WICKET! What a catch. De Villers is offered a bit of width and he takes the cover off it. It looks like four, but Collingwood dives to his left and takes it low down. The ball was almost behind him when he pouched it. Can't bat, can't bowl but boy can he field! Only kidding, Colly. Duminy is away with a glorious drive which brings him 3.

  • 8 South Africa 38-1 (0-0-0-0-0-1): Bresnan's got it on a string at the moment. Just one off it and he looks like the senior bowler at the moment.

  • 7 South Africa 37-1 (Anderson 0-4-4-1-1-0): Lucky, lucky Amla as he flashes outside off stump but it flies wide of slip but fine of third man for four. BANG! Anderson overpitches and Amla cashes in again wit a lovely drive through point for four.

  • 6 South Africa 27-1 (Bresnan 0-0-1-0-W): WICKET! While senior bowler Anderson is a little wayward, Bresnan is frustrating the batters with some good line bowling. And Bresnan gets his reward, a lovely ball outside off stump tempts Smith into a fiddle and he steers the ball into the hands of Strauss at slip.

  • 5 South Africa 26-0 (Anderson 0-0-4-4-0-0): Classic Smith who after being circumspect, shuffles to the offside and whips the ball through square leg for four. If he'd missed it would have been a good lwb shout but he's so strong there. A second four in the same place and this one is a gift, as Morgan makes a mess of his slide and the ball dribbles into the rope. That's a couple of poor bits of fielding early on from England.

  • 4 South Africa 18-0 (Bresnan 4-1-0-0-0-1): BOSH! Bresnan offers a bit of width to Amla and he cashes in with an expansive cover drive for four. Amla looks in good touch.

  • 3 South Africa 12-0 (Anderson 0-1-0-0-0-0): Anderson settles into a good line to Smith, pushing it across the left hander who opts to take a look. I reckon Anderson will look to bring one back into Smith soon.

  • 2 South Africa 11-0 (Bresnan: 0-1-wd-0-1-0-2): A steady start from Bresnan and he amost gets through Smith's defences with an inswinger that the Proteas skipper sneaks off the inside edge.

  • - Bresnan will take the new ball alongside. Time for the Yorkshireman to show the Lancastrian how it's done.

  • 1 South Africa 6-0 (Anderson: 0-0-0-2-4-0): A good start from Anderson, a bit bounce just outside off stump. Amla is a little loose outside off stump and is lucky to get away with a waft outside off stump. Amla is underway with a flick through midwicket for 2, it should have been one but it's a misfield from Saj Mahmood. He must be in the team for something other than his fielding. Half volley from Anderson and Amla drives through cover for four. Glorious shot.

  • - We've had the anthems, England are being given a final speech by Strauss and we will be underway soon.

  • - South Africa are certainly a less fearsome outfit without Kallis and true they have struggled against England in 50-over cricket, but you just get the impression that they are determimed to show England who's boss on home soil.

  • - England: Strauss, Trott, Pietersen, Collingwood, Morgan, Prior, Wright, Bresnan, Rashid, Mahmood, Anderson

  • - South Africa: Smith, Amla, De Villiers, Duminy, Petersen, Morkel, Boucher, McLaren, Van der Merwe, Steyn, Langeveldt

  • - Teams are in. England stick with Rashid, Amla replaces Kallis for the Proteas

  • - Graeme Smith, through gritted teeth, says he is not too bothered about batting. Come off it, you'd have bowled in the blink of an eye.

  • - Right down to the action. England have won the toss and Straussy has not hesitation in choosnig to bowl. "With the rain around, it will probably do something early."

  • - After Friday's washout, i packed my brolley and waterproofs. Typically, there's not a cloud in the sky.

  • - Welcome to live text commentary of the 2nd ODI between South Africa and England.

  1. Can you believe it? Another cheating footballer! Spurs are beating Wigan 6-1 at this moment, but the guy who scored the Wigan goal clearly did an 'Henry' before he booted the ball into the net!

  7. Hi Aitch! In the south at the moment it is persisting down every single day! I haven't seen the sun since Thursday. Still, that is the Thai climate. In Phuket it's the 'cool season', and in the south it's the 'rainy season'.
No worries for me because I love rain, but the only problem is, is that heavy rain plays havoc on satellite dish reception, and I have got Spurs v. Wigan coming up right now!

If you are forced to bat and you suspect rain interruptions, as a captain you need to decide whether or not to risk wickets and slog a few runs off a few overs, or hope the weather will stay fine and bat out 50 overs.
As a captain losing the @#$%, what would you do?

  15. The fact that not one over has been a maiden highlights how poor the England bowlers are in maintaining a decent line and length . Sorry but Rashid is just not up to this level and needs to learn how to bowl tight and then use his wicket taking ability . He has gone for 27 in 3 overs and a non bowler in Trott has kept things tight by just bowling straight . England now need to get off to a positive start in their innings , but I wouldn't put much money on it
