Former Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster has been unveiled as the new coach of Spanish side Malaga. The 53-year-old German began his job on Wednesday after signing a five-year contract to replace Chilean Manuel Pellegrini, who has moved to English Premier League side Manchester City. At his first press conference in his new role Schuster said: “It was the project (that attracted my attention). The project of continuing making an important team, maybe a little bit different from last year but we will also want to win and continue the path… that was what totally convinced me.” Malaga finished sixth in La Liga last season and reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League in their debut appearance in europe’s top club competition. However Schuster does face an uphill battle in his first term as a number of key players are expected to leave the club due to financial concerns with the Spanish outfit, which also led to a UEFA ban from European competition. less
