Leinster capped an outstanding year for Irish rugby by claiming a first Heineken Cup with a 19-16 win over Leicester at Murrayfield. More
80'+2 THAT'S IT! LEINSTER HAVE WON THE HEINEKEN CUP! The Irish side tackle brilliantly to force the penalty as desperate Leicester hands hang on to the ball - and Leinster kick the ball out to finish the win!
71' Sexton takes his time there... but it's worth the wait! That's the lead with 10 minutes left, with the kick looking like it's missing right but just drifting back in to nip between the posts!
55' George Chuter makes way for Ben Kayser as the Tigers reshuffle their pack again.
53' Sexton's kick narrowly misses the posts, and we're still tied at 16 apiece - after the kick Julian White comes on for the Tigers as Castrogiovanni trots off.
49' The try is right in front of the posts - and the conversion is a simple one. 16-16!
49' Leinster finally spin it wide to O'Driscoll, who almost gets over... but the ball is recycled at top speed and Jamie Heaslip storms over the line with some supporting help from Whitaker!
47' Geordan Murphy is coming off injured! Matt Smith will replace him - what a job for him to do. Scott Hamilton moves to full-back and Smith will go out to the wing.
44' Stan Wright is back from his sojourn in the sin bin, and Jennings comes back on too with McCormack returning to the bench.
43' Terrible error from Ciaran Healy, kicking the ball out of the hands of Dupuy as he clears out a ruck... but he's clearly offside as he does so, and it's the simplest of three-pointers from right in front of the sticks.
41' We're back in action at Murrayfield - and straight away a Leinster mix-up gives the Tigers a throw just 10 metres out!
40' End of the first half, and that's a cracking fightback from Leicester in that last 10 minutes. They'd looked frankly appalling for the first half hour as Leinster's fly-half Johnny Sexton was running the show, but that spell of dominance at the end has given them a lead which is well deserved.
39' With the try almost under the posts, the extras are a mere bagatelle for Dupuy.
39' TRY FOR LEICESTER!!! Dan Hipkiss makes a run that draws the defence, and Ben Woods is released... and the flanker beraks through to cross the line!
36' Shane Jennings is the man who temporarily makes way for prop Ronan McCormack to cmoe on while Wright is sin-binned.
34' Dupuy takes the three points easily - we'll see if Wright's professional foul turns out to be good value now.
33' Penalty Leicester - Stan Wright tackles Vesty off the ball when the Tiger is all but free and clear! Yellow card for his cynicism - and quite right too, that was a shocker!
25' Sexton smashes the ball cleanly through the posts, and Leinster have a massively well-deserved lead.
18' With nothing much on in the middle of the park Sexton tries a long-range drop goal out of nowhere - and middles it cleanly over the bar! Stunning stuff from the fly-half!
9' It's a simple kick, and Dupuy makes no mistake in slotting it straight through the posts.
7' Leinster keep deep into the Leicester 22 - Murphy takes the ball and calls for the mark, but the Irish side come back with a quick throw... and Rocky Elsom's charging run sets up a drop goal chance for O'Driscoll, who nails it over brilliantly!| Leicester Tigers | versus | Leinster |
|---|---|---|
| Woods 39’ | Tries | Heaslip 49’ |
| Dupuy 39’ | Conversions | Sexton 49’ |
| Dupuy 9’, 34’, 43’ | Penalties | Sexton 25’, 71’ |
| Drops | O'Driscoll 7’, Sexton 18’ |

unluky tigers well done lenister rest of europe say nothing at lesat we got there

You don't seem to get it. When England won they were one of the best three teams in the world, possibly fractionally behind New Zealand and slightly better than the Australians. The French team that Ireland beat was a million miles from the team that played in the world cup and the Australia team that lost to France was hardly the same team that played in the world cup. I think Leinster completely deserved to win the Heineken Cup and Ireland were by far the best side in the 6 nations, all I am saying is how good are they in the grand scheme of things. All the big teams will build a team for the World Cup and I just hope Ireland can mtch them. By the way Frankie boy, I'm not a jock.

Oh Dear, it's gone very quiet from Leicester! You didn't deserve to win last week but you somehow scraped through. You certainly didn't deserve to win today and thankfully you didn't!! You seem to have a lot to say when you win but not much when you don't! are you the Man utd of rugby??? Seamus

@markear1 et al.
It's been a great season for Irish rugby and you Irish ought to be right proud!
As a 100% devoted London Irish supporter I salute the Leinster guys !!
'Come on you Irish' !!!!!!

Well Jack since you are bringing up Irelands performance in the world cup. What I saw with my own eyes is Ireland beating the world cup runners up, England and Ireland also beat France who defeated New Zealand. Wales beat Australia in november and then Ireland went to Cardiff and beat Wales. Oh yeah Ireland also defeated Argentina who at that time were ranked the 4th best team in the world. So using your logic that would mean that Ireland are the 2nd best team in the world. I don't believe that myself but considering rugby is a relatively small sport in a small country, we are doing very well. And yes you are trying to piss on our parade, the fact that you made them comments 1 hour after Leinster won proves that. Just say well done and look forward to the lions.

by that logic so when england won the world cup every other team were @#$% so and thats why they won ? which would make england also a @#$% team only they were the better @#$% on the day by your logic jack jock

I'm not pissing on the parade I'm just pointing out something which I think is a valid point? Look at the spelling of my name, I'm not a jock. Its about rugby and the main aim is to win the world cup, just looking at the big picture. Its not all roses thats all I'm saying. Leinster and Munster are the two best teams in Europe and Ireland won the Grand slam and deserved to do so, you can only beat what is put infront of you but what exactly was put infront of them? Ireland have won nothing with better teams, and I've seen it with my own eyes.

or maybe jack jock you talken out through you @#$% ye i think thats the reason mmm

Re Jackmcloughlin: Stop pissing on our parade, can you not just say well done on a great season for Irish rugby. I hate sore losers.

It makes me proud to be a Leinsterman

One question that must be addressed is that with Munster and Leinster winning Heineken Cups and Ireland winning the grand slam is it that Rugby in the Northern Hemisphere is in a dip or are the Irish team really good enough to compete on the world stage? In my opinion the English team which reached the world cup final was not as good as the Irish team that tamely whimpered out of the tournament after 3 awful performances? Was it the poor management of the team? O'Gara looked a shadow of the player that stars for Munster, only O'Driscoll and maybe O'Connell were worthy of praise for their performances yet now they look like a proper team. Yet at the end of the day, beating a poor English team by a point at home a an average Welsh team by the odd kick hardly eflects World class form. Maybe it is that France have the poorest side for many a year and England haven't had a settled team in 6 years!!!

guys the chat trend here is a disgrace and not what id expect from a rugby forum, shame on you (you kno who you are) there is now a great bond between irish and english rugby teams, i remember a day at the last world cup where the whole of ireland was cheering for england against france .. but for today well done leinster , great win..

Great win, great game, great tournament.
BUT pity about some of the "brave" commenters on this thread.
And i'm including all nationalities in that.
Anyway, Luga, it's just a sad comment on yourself and those who raise to your bait.

If rugby is rubbish then what are you doing on here you @#$%.

great season for Irish rugby, there can be no doubt who the best rugby nation in the northern hemisphere is right now.

Fair play to Leinster, well deserved and about time they won it, under achieved for so long. O'Driscoll has to be one of the great players of his generation. Brilliant. Shame about the idiots who have to abuse one another.

I love England and everything that we stand for!!!!!!!
