Scotland displayed superior imagination on attack to record a 26-6 win over Italy at Murrayfield and clinch their first Six Nations win. More
79' Another lovely burst from Thom Evans. Scots retain possession and Godman continues attack. Scots have a penalty for hands in a ruck. They opt for scrum, kick ahead and Italy clear into touch. Ref blows for full-time and Scotland have their first victory of the championship. 26-6. Reasonable performance from Scotland but back to the drawing board for the Azzurri. Thanks for joining us.
77' Great flick from base of scrum by Parisse puts Mauro Bergamasco clear and the flanker chips ahead and shows great pace but is beaten by the unlucky bounce. Lovely move that deserved more.
74' Dickinson shows great pace for a prop and bursts clear of Italy defence. He also shows good awareness to find Cusiter in support but great enveloping tackle by Mirco Bergamasco prevents certain try. Unconstested scrums in the absence of Jacobsen.
70' It's by no means a classic match but at least there is a little more action from both sides as we reach the final 10 minutes. But would I pay good money for this? No. And the umpteen replacements are helping either.
67' Scots earn penalty just outside Italy 22 and opt to kick for goal to the disatisfaction of the Murrayfield crowd. Not a positive call but Paterson extends lead to 26-6.
64' Danielli takes high ball and bursts clear. But the wing is denied a second try by decent tackle from McLean, and TMo awards no try as Danielli knocks on.
63' Paterson adds conversion and Scots lead 23-6.
62' Nice injection of pace by Max Evans. Scots recycle ball and Thom Evans bursts through and is hauled down just short but pops ball up superbly for Gray to go over for Scots second try. 21-6 Scotland.
58 Del Fava now on for Delappe in Italy second row. This really is a dull encounter andn all the replacements are not helping!
57' Couple more replacements: Griffen off for Canavosio and Barclay off for Gray.
55' Cusiter on for Blair at scrum-half and it ignites a brighter passage for the home side, but it comes to an end with a knock.
55' Scots concede another penalty and this time Italy go for goal. Ref warns Scots skipper Blair that next time he'll get yellow card out. McLean on target to cut Scots lead to 16-6. Should they have gone for goal with other two penalties? Probably.
53' Hall on for Ford at hooker.
51' Pick and drive by Italy's heavy forwards, Ball is spread wide to Pratichetti and he is held up 5m short. Ghiraldini makes good yards but Delappe spills it and Scots hack down field. Messy, messy game!
49' Great hit Mauro Bergamasco on Taylor and Italy win another penalty for holding on. Again Italy opt to go for corner rather than goal. Positive decision in light of scoreline.
48' Taylor fails to roll away in tackle and Italy go for touch in Scots 22. Paterson on for Southwell at full-back. Rubini on for Marcato, also at full-back.
47' Paterson gets cheer as he warms up on the touchline.
44' Lovely kick from Godman finds touch a metre short of the Italy try line. But Dellape wins Italy throw and Scots concede penalty for illegally collapsing the maul.
43' Another passage of aerial ping-pong comes to an end when Marcato kicks out of the full and mistake gives Scots lineout in Italy half.
41' Laboured passing by Italy and Scots drive Bortolami back in the tackle. But Italy retain possession and Parisse takes the ball up with a bit more intent - as ever!
41' Marcato gets second half started for Italy.
38' Penalty to Italy now and Marcato steps up but his kick floats just wide.
37' Godman adds the conversion and Scotland lead 16-3.
35' Danielli makes immediate amends by bursting through after a Scots move in midfield and rounding Pratichetti to go over for a try under the posts. Good score. 14-3.
34' Danielli in space on the right and chips ahead, The wing goes to ground and looks for obstruction but ref is having none of it and awards the mark to Italy! Drama lessons for Danielli!
31' Deliberate knock on Mauro Bergamsco and Scots have kickable chance in Italy half. Looks a harsh decision! Godman on target this time to mvoe Italy 9-3 ahead.
28' Scots go off their feet and Italy win penalty, but Mclean misses touch, allowing Thom Evans to gather and kick ahead. Italy reply only for Southwell to put up high ball which he manages to bat back to his own side. Italy knock on and Scots have scrum in Italy half.
27' Scots string together series of attacks, but Italy competing well at the break down and slowing possession right down.
27' Evans chips ahead and Griffen forced to gather ball in his 22. Feeds Marcato, who hurries his kick to touch on Italy 22.
26' Free kick Scots for crooked scrum feed. Not often you see that!
23' Canale pinged for holding on and Scots have chance to extend their lead. Godman lining up kick on goal this time but pushes his effort wide. Wasted opportunity as it was very kickable!
22' Max Evans pinches ball after tackle on Canale. But Zanni intercepts and takes a last-ditch tackle from Danielli to prevent try. Ball is recycled and Parisse lands drop goal - the number eight! 6-3 Scotland. Italy did well to come away with points from that attacking position.
19' Blair again scragged in possession, this time by Parisse, and Zanni has chance to make good yards down left flank. But Canale spills ball in midfield and Scots earn scrum just outside their 22.
18' Scots earn penalty for prop Perugini coming up early and Southwell finds touch near to halfway line.
16' Lovely kick from McLean moves Italy into Scots 22 for lineout. Scots struggling to get out of their own half, even though they have had their share of possession. Scots throw crooked and Italy now have an attacking scrum 10m from Scots try-line.
15' Scots have some momentum now as they put together a series of phases. But as yet the Italy defence is firm and a big hit turns ball over and allows Griffen to kick upfield.
12' Paterson again on target to put Scots 6-0 up. He immediatley leaves the field to be replaced by a patched up Godman.
12' Bortolami comes in from the side and Scotland win penalty and have another chance on goal.
8' Italy keeping the ball well but forward pass from flanker Bergamasco to Zanni brings promising attack to an end.
7' Bortolami wins lineout on Scots 22, and Italy attack through Bergamasco in midfield. Ball is recycled and Canale makes break down left touchline. Italy retain possession but knock on before they can get ball away and Scots win scrum down and Blair clears.
5' Paterson immediately into action as he slots the penalty to give Scots a 3-0 lead.
4' Two injuries already. Godman off with eye injury and Paterson on, while Garcia is sadly out of it after taking a knock to the head and Bacchetti on at centre.
4' Penalty Scots for Perugini failing to roll away after tackling Strockosch.
3' Canale chips ahead but Barclay covers well and launches a counter with Strockosch.
1' Not a good start for the Scots as they concede an early penalty and allow McLean to kick to touch for an Azzurri lineout just outside Scots 22.
1' Godman gets the game underway, Can the Scots reproduce the decent form of their regional sides this season?
- Scotland handed Italy victory on a plate at Murrafield two years ago by gifting them three tries in the first seven minutes, and they never recovered from a 21-0 deficit. Last year, Andrea Marcato nailed a drop goal in the last minute to steal victory. Scotland will not want a repeat of either of those experiences and will be looking to the Evans brother Max and Thom to give them an attacking edge in the backs.
- Fabio Ongaro has been relegated to the bench as hooker Leonardo Ghiraldini returns to the line-up having missed the Italians' opening two defeats in England and against Ireland through injury. Calvisano's Gonzalo Garcia has earned a starting spot with Kaine Robertson having been left out of the squad.
- The Azzurri welcome back Andrea Marcato and Marco Bortolami, both of whom missed the 38-9 defeat to the Irish in Rome through injury. Marcato will replace full-back Andrea Masi, who is serving a three-week ban for a dangerous tackle on Ireland's Robert Kearney, while lock Bortolami comes in for the dropped Tommaso Reato.
- Scotland have been boosted by the return of prop Euan Murray, though their first-choice locks Nathan Hines and Jim Hamilton are still absent through injury. Their absence means a recall for Alastair Kellock, who will pack down alongside Jason White, usually a back-row player. Murray and Kellock are the only two changes to the side that went down 22-13 in France two weeks ago.
- Italy under Mallett are similar. They have been competitive without being able to grind out the results the sport needs to grow in popularity. But they know what it is like to beat the Scots and will be confident they can make it three on the bounce.
- Both sides are winless from the first two rounds and both coaches - Frank Hadden for Scotland and Nick Mallett - need a victory to secure their jobs. Home coach Hadden in particular. Despite promising much, Scotland have delivered little under his guidance and have lost nine of their last 10 Six Nations games. Furthermore, Italy seem to have Scotland's number and will be hoping for a hat-trick of consecutive wins.
- Good afternoon and welcome to the second match of the third round of the 2009 Six Nations. After last night's thriller in Paris we're off to Edinburgh for the clash between Scotland and Italy from Murrayfield, a game many have described as the wooden spoon decider to this year's championship.| Scotland | versus | Italy |

| Godman 36’, Paterson 63’ | Conversions | |
