    • 80' Carter tries the reverse kick again, but this time it's too long and into touch. The whistle goes and South Africa are the 2009 Tri-Nations champions courtesy of a 32-29 victory. What a game!
    • 78' TRY! Real pressure on the Springboks line. And Carter switches play with a superb kick into the hands of McCaw, who catches to lunge over in the corner. The conversion is good.
    • 73' The All Blacks are throwing it around like a sevens match now.
    • 71' Morne Steyn makes no mistake and the lead is back to 10 points for South Africa.
    • 70' South Africa chase down a kick and Mils Muliaina has no support whatsoever. He gets predictably penalised for not releasing under pressure. This could be a key moment.
    • 68' The Springboks charge down a keep deep in All Black territory, but New Zealand win a penalty and have a chance to clear their lines.
    • 66' The referee is Nigel Owens from Wales by the way.
    • 65' Another penalty for the All Blacks and this time they take the points. Carter takes his tally to 17 points for the match. We are surely set for a corking finish now. South Africa lead 29-22.
    • 61' South Africa concede a penalty on their 22. But instead of taking the points the All Blacks set a scrum...only to concede a penalty themselves.
    • 59' Carter with lovely break on the left, but his pass falls to ground and goes into touch.
    • 57' New Zealand finally have some momentum. The set the ball on the halfway line and break down the left.
    • 55' TRY! Superb response from the All Blacks. They tap a quick penalty and replacement Isaia Toeava breaks down the left to feed Sitiveni Sivivatu, who goes over in the corner. Carter kicks the conversion.
    • 53' TRY! Disaster for Carter! Jean de Villiers reads his pass and intercepts to coast under the posts. Morne Steyn slots the conversion and South Africa lead 29-12.
    • 51' Brilliant break from Nonu, who slices through the South African midfield. But he loses the ball in contact and the Springboks clear.
    • 49' The first lull in the match arrives, with both sides contesting the central areas.
    • 46' Rokocoko does better this time, beating Habana to the catch. New Zealand set up and launch an attack into the Springboks half.
    • 44' Carter kicks clear, prompting Francois Steyn to launch an audacious drop-goal attempt from the halfway line. It's just wide!
    • 42' But it's South Africa who attack first, driving towards the All Blacks line and breaking tackles after Rokocoko drops a high ball. New Zealand escape and win the scrum on their five metre line.
    • 41' The second half is underway. New Zealand need to get off to a flier.
    • 40' New Zealand attack again, this time on the right, but once again the kick through is touched down comfortably over the try line by the defence. The hooter goes and South Africa take a 22-12 lead into the break.
    • 39' McCaw drives forwards and sets. Carter takes possession in the centre and goes for a grubber kick through, but the Springboks get to it first and clear from the drop-out.
    • 39' Carter arrows a penalty into touch close to the South Africa line. Good chance to attack here.
    • 37' Carter makes if four from four with another well-struck penalty. Not a kick missed thus far.
    • 36' Morne Steyn, who takes the shorter kicks for the world champions, slots and the lead is now 22-9.
    • 34' Silly stuff from Reid, who shoulder-charges Habana into touch after the whistle to concede a penalty.
    • 32' Donald goes for the heart of the defence, but the ball is dislodged from his grasp and South Africa hammer the ball clear.
    • 30' Francois Steyn is under a high ball, but he fumbles and knocks on to hand the All Blacks a scrum in a good attacking position.
    • 28' All Blacks win a penalty and tap. Nonu goes again. McCaw picks up and carries to the 10 metre line. Good stuff from New Zealand.
    • 26' Steyn kicks his third goal from inside his own half. Ridiculous stuff.
    • 24' Good break from the All Blacks. Nonu breaks a tackle and surges through. But South Africa win it back when Donald puts a kick in the air and then pick up another penalty. Francois Steyn will take it on.
    • 23' The All Blacks respond almost immediately. They win a penalty and Carter makes no mistake. They trail 16-9.
    • 20 TRY! South Africa burst through and swarm all over the All Blacks line after winning a line-out against the head. Fourie du Preez picks up close in and snipes over to open a lead for the world champions. Steyn converts,
    • 17' Morne Steyn goes for the drop-goal from just outside the 22 and slides it over superbly. The Springboks regain their lead.
    • 15' Carter slots with a minimum of fuss and we're level at 6-6.
    • 14' Smit slips and goes over the top in a ruck to concedes an unfortunate penalty in front of the posts.
    • 12' Carter makes a break and tries to feed the ball outside, but a Springbok hand deflects the ball back. McCaw goes after it, and New Zealand concede the line-out when their captain kicks out from the ground.
    • 9' Smit gets walloped by one of his own men and has blood streaming from his nose. But soon after South Africa win another penalty and FRANCOIS STEYN ONCE AGAIN MAKES IT COUNT!
    • 8' Donald makes a short burst in midfield and New Zealand set up on the 10 metre line.
    • 6' UNBELIEVABLE PENALTY FROM STEYN! From just over 60 metres he blasts one over the posts and the visitors are level at 3-3.
    • 4' New Zealand win a penalty to clear their lines. That was a dynamic attack from the Springboks. A real sign of their cutting thrust.
    • 3' Spies with a good carry for South Africa and they break into the New Zealand 22 with real purpose.
    • 2' Carter takes his time, before slotting straight down the middle to take his Test tally to 896 points.

  1. My question about the referee was serious, not sarcastic. I'm not suggesting referee bias, but different refs interpret the rules differently so it IS useful to know who the referee is from the beginning of the game, rather than find out in the 66th minute..... But thanks for telling us eventually, yahoo.
