- 77' Mortlock opts to kick for goal and he skews it just wide missing to the left of the posts - that could be their last chance to secure this match
- 76' Australia are throwing everything they have at England now desperately looking for the score that could book their place in the semi finals and they win a penalty as Joe Worsley plays the ball off his feet

- 44' Barnes, instumental to the only try of the game so far, is now beginning to settle into his game and he puts in a great accurate kick down field for the lineout

- - It has been an encouraging first half from England but there have been missed opportunities and they will need to get the first score in the second half if they wish to stay in the match
- 40' The ball is dribbling about in open play in the middle of the field when the clock ticks over to 40 minutes and the ref blows for half time
- 39' Wilkinson skews the penalty wide in much the same manner as the drop kick ... he is only 50-50 on the penalty kicks so far this match which is not going to be good enough!

- 15' England are enjoying a period of sustained possession started by Wilkinson who nips through the gap to collect the loose ball
- 14' Mortlock has the distance he just can't quite get the direction and England escape once again
- 13' The scrum goes down once again and Rolland has awarded Australia the penalty ... it is just inside the half and Mortlock indicates he will kick for the goal ...
- 12' Tension is beginning to bubble over now as a few players seem ready for a fight ... the scrum in particular is proving contentious and ref Rolland will have to have a word
- 10' It's an encouraging start from England with Sackey again looking threatening as he is thumped to the ground but what looked suspiciously like a shoulder charge from George Smith ... Sackey is not happy about it but the ref seems to have let it go
- 8' Oooh ... very close for England there as Sackey is just inches from the line when the ball bounces in front of him ... he gets a hand on it but cannot collect and is left charging through empty handed
- 8' England take the ball well on the re-start ... Wilkinson sees Sackey speeding up the right wing and puts up the chip ...
- 6' No mistake from Mortlock this time. The Wallabies have an early three point lead
- 6' Easter again is right in the thick of things and gives away a sloppy penalty for handling on the ground ... Mortlock will have a second kick at goal ... it is further out but 10 or 15m closer to the goal
- 5' Unusually Mortlock skews the kick leaving England with a second chance at the 22 drop out ...
- 4' Gregan gets caught in possession but referee Alan Rolland doesn't like it ... Mortlock will have an early chance to give Australia a three point lead
- 3' Wilkinson quickly takes the 22m drop out and spins the ball out to Easter ... who gets thumped to the ground and loses the ball
- 3' Rookie Berrick Barnes boots the ball upfield for the Wallabies to chase but it runs well long only just refusing the dribble over the dead ball line
- 2' England are looking positive in the early stages of this match as Moody makes the break on the half way line by skipping past his tackle ... but his offload is just ahead of the scampering Nick Easter
- 1' Stirling Mortlock immediately gets in on the action for Australia beating Lewis Moody to the high ball

- Our man Terence O'Rorke in Marseille is enjoying the atmosphere. "I'm sitting in a bar by the harbour with a beer and everyone is in great spirits. It is a big rugby festival: the French have embraced this competition magnificently. The harbour is sensational. The sun is shining and it is about 25 degrees. There are more English fans but plenty of Aussies too - I'm sure they'll make themselves heard in the stadium."

The only man out is influential fly-half Stephen Larkham, with rookie Berrick Barnes stepping in for his fourth full cap.- - The Red Rose are without centres Andy Farrell - who has a calf strain - and his likely replacement Olly Barkley, missing with a bruised right thigh. 2003 hero Mike Catt, who knows the Aussies inside-out, is selected alongside Jonny Wilkinson.
