81' Wilko misses the conversion as the ref blows for full-time. England remain on course for the quarter finals after an improved performance but they were still made to work hard by the Samoans. However, they finished strongly and will be pleased to have scored at the end. 44-22.
80' Sackey is tackled in the air and England kick penalty into touch, win lineout and start to drive up field. Wilko cuts back inside and pops up a lovely pass to Sackey who goes inside and then outside Tuilagi to score. Superb try for the bonus point! The ref goes upstairs but the try is awarded. 44-22.- 80' Samoa make a mess of the lineout and Moody nicks the ball. Wilkinson clears up to the 10m line as the clock hits 80 minutes. Last chance for Samoa but England's defence holds firm.
- 79' Samoa trying to keep the ball alive for one last score. England concede penalty, fail to retreat 10m and Samoa kick for the corner.

- 70' Restart doesn't go 10 metres and England awarded scrum on halfway line. Samoa scrum-half So'oialo tries to play the ball when it's not out and England gain a penalty just insisde their own half. Huge kick from Wilkinson makes it 32-22.

- 69' England forwards driving and interpassing well, marshaled by Gomarsall. Samoa concede penalty but it's irrelevant as Wilkinson puts over a superb drop goal to relieve the pressure - slightly! 29-22.
- 68' Crichton chips and Gomarsall takes it bravely! Wilkinson puts up up and under and regain possession but indecision from Barkley in midfield slows down the attack.
- 67' Samoa kick downfield and Lewsey caught in possession. Ball is recycled and Gomarsall finds a good touch. England looking very nervous out there!!
- 66' England have 16 minutes to survive and keep their World Cup alive. The defending champions are in danger of crashing out at the pool stages unless they can slow things down and get their game plan abck on track!

64' Samoa win scrum and their forwards drive at the England line. The ball comes back and Alesana Tuilagi tries to crash through. Polu snipes down the blindside but the ball is spilled and England clear the danger, but it's a poor kick from Wilkinson. Sctrum down to Samoa on the halfway line after a good chase from Worsley. Wilkinson must find touch!- 62' England steal the ball and have space down the right but Tait makes a mess of the pass and Samoa kick up field. Lewsey manages to get back just in time and the ball is knocked on for a scrum five meteres from England's line. Let off for England!
- 60' Samoa force turnover and kick up field. Alesna Tuilagi wins the race but the ball rolls into touch - lucky for England! They are struggling here and we could be in for a huge upset!!!
- 58' England get lucky break as Lima penalised for no retreating and they move 60m upfield for a scrum on Samoa 22m line. Tait caught in possession but England retain the ball, Easter makes some good yards but the attack is slowed down again!
- 55' England win lineout and produce powerful drive through their forwards. Wilko goes for drop goal but it's wide, but it doesn't matter as Samoa are offside. But Wilko misses the penalty!!
- 54' Big Samoa defence again forces England into mistake and Samoa earn scrum for forward pass. But England nick the scrum and Barkley kicks for Cueto in the corner. Lemis covers well and finds touch just inside 22m line.
- 50' Sackey caught in possession and Samoa awarded another penalty. Crichton kicks them down to England 22m line. England losing their composure here and playing into Samoa hands with their loose play and infringements!
- 48' England attacking well and Tait showing nice touches, but they concede a penalty for not releasing and Samoa clear their lines!
- 46' Crichton makes it 26-22!
- 47' Loose kick from Lewsey hands Samoa attacking opportunity and they move it down the right through Lemi, Schwalger kicks ahead and Polu races Tait for the touch down. Ref goes upstairs - did Polu get the touch, the video official says yes and it's 26-20. Superb counter attack from Samoa, all stemming from a poor Lewsey kick. Samoa well and truly back in this!
- 43' Big hit from Lima on Wilkinson but it's high and England awarded penalty. Just as well as Wilkinson spilled the ball and Lemi had collected it and was away! Wilko makes it 26-15.
- 42' Samoa attack through Alesana Tuilagi and England penalised for offside. Lazy running from Wilkinson and Crichton adds the three points. 23-15 and good start for Samoa.
41' Samoa restart through Sapolu and Gomarsall takes it well. But he runs into his own man and Samoa awarded scrum.- 40' Ref blows for half-time. A decent half for England who are back playing some positive rugby, but the Samoans finished strongly and are by no means out of this game!
- 40' Good hit from Wilkinson earns England a turn over. Gomarsall is charged down, Wilkinson regathers and just avoids a huge hit from Lima, who pulls out of the tackle at the last second. But its penalty to Samoa for England playing the ball off their feet. Lovely kick from Sapolu makes it 23-12.
- 39' Good effort from Worsley to win the restart but his tap down to Corry is ruled forward.
- 37' Clever lineout from Samoa and Henry Tuilagi bashes into the England midfield. The ball is recycled several times and although England defence holds out they are penalised for being offside. Lovely play from Samoa as they ask questions of England. Crichton makes it 23-9 from right in front of England posts.
- 34' Samoa break from defence after long kick from England, feed Alesana Tuilagi on the left wing and the big Leicester player kicks ahead. Gomarsall back well to clear the danger.
- 34' Wilkinson back on target and makes it 23-6.
- 32' Shaw makes a big charge, Stevens joins in the attack and England recycle the ball. Wilkinson puts through a lovely grubber kick and Sackey wins the chase to the touch down. Excellent play from England and well worked try. Probably their best moment of the World Cup so far. 21-6.
- 30' Lewsey caught in defence after gathering a long kick from Samoa. England retain possession and kick upfield, only for Alesana Tuilagi to lauch a counter attack. But England defence good.
- 29' England forwards trying to get a drive going but Samoa pack defends with power and win a scrum. Poor effort from England and stodgy forward play!! Quick ball should be their mantra - it's the only way their backs are going to find any gaps!!
- 28' Poor pass from Wilkinson sees Lewsey knock on and Samoa awarded scrum down. Poor five minutes from the England number 10! England nick the scrum.
- 26' Wilkinson kicks over Samoa defensive line and Lewsey chases, pressures Alesana Tuilagi and he slices his clearance. England throw on the Samoa 22m line.
- 24' Wilkinson puts up a bomb and Crichton makes the mark, which he takes quickly to try and launch a counter-attack. But Samoa penalised only for Wilkinson to miss the penalty attempt. Shock miss from Wilkinson.
- 22' Gomarsall takes the restart and finds a superb touch, moving England 50m downfield into Samoa half.
- 20' Kay nicks a Samoa lineout and Tait bursts into Samoa midfield. England retain possession and Samoa concede another penalty for going over the top. Wilkinson adds another three points to become the third highest World Cup points scorer. 16-6.
- 19' Good scrum from England drives Samoa back 10 yards. Tait finds decent touch and moves England into Samoa half.
- 17' England concede freekick and Polu takes a quick tap and cuts through the England midfield. Nice break from the scrum-half but the attack breaks down when he fails to find his wing.
- 16' Wilkinson goes for a long touch finder but his kick hits the corner flag - scrum back to Samoa on the halfway line.
- 13' England spin the ball wide to Cueto on the wing and Sheridan keeps the attack going before Samoa concede penalty for handling ball on the ground. Wilkinson makes it 13-6.
- 11' Henry Tuilagi beats the defence and makes good ground down the middle. His brother Alesana continues the attack and Samoa win a penalty in England's 22m area. Raw power from the Samoans creating problems for England. Sapolu makes no mistakes and kicks the simple penalty. 10-6. Good response from Samoa!
- 7' Blocking from Easter earns Samoa a penalty and Crichton nails a superb kick to get the Islanders on the scoreboard. 10-3.
- 5' England forwards continue to drive, the ball is moved to the left and Lewsey is stopped five metres short of the line. England recycle and Wilkinson adds a drop goal! 10-0. Well played England, who make sure of points from their attack.
- 4' Barkley takes restart well and England forwards drive downfield. Samoa concede penalty and Wilkinson kicks England down to Samoa's 22m line.
- 3' Wilkinson adds the two points from the touchline. Supern kick. 7-0.
- 2' Worsley charges down Sapolu's clearance kick, he's almost over but the ball bounces away from him. But England retain possession, move it to the left wing and back to the right before Corry barges his way over! 5-0. Great start for England.
1' The fit again Jonny Wilkinson gets the game underway and Thompson takes the catch cleanly.- - So, no more chances for England. The defending champions have to win this clash if they are to stay in the World Cup. Expect a fiery battle against the teak-tough Samoans.
