    World Cup regulars Romania narrowly avoided a huge upset when two tries in the last half hour gave them a 14-10 win over Portugal's remarkable amateurs in their Pool C match on Tuesday. More

    • 80' Portugal somehow win the ball and their forwards make a few yards but the ball is knocked on and allows the ref to blow for full-time. Thank goodness - that was not an easy game to watch. Still, Romania just about deserved the win and will be relieved to have got a victory under their belts. Thanks for joining us.
    • 79' Romania forwards have possession and are running down the clock. Socol picks and drives again, but they've knocked on and Portugal have a scrum five metres from their posts. They have to win this one and they have to run it!
    • 77' Romania destroy the Portugal scrum and win a penalty 35m from Portugal's posts and opt for goal. Dumbrava hits the post and Portgual clear their lines - they still have an outside chance!
    • 74' The covnersion is kicked and Romania extend their lead to 14-10. A vital kick as it puts them out of a range of a penalty kick or drop goal.
    • 71' Romania have their drive going again and are within 5m of the Portgual try line. They pick and drive again, Portugal hold out for the first few waves but finally the Romanians go over through Corodoneau. 12-10. Romania lead for the first time in the game!
    • 68' Romania go in over the top and Malheiro steps up for a kick at goal. 40m out, he strikes it sweetly and gives Portugal the lead again. 10-7.
    • 65' 15 minutes to go and it looks like a penalty or drop goal will decide this one. Portugal are still in it but the momentum if with Romania as Malheiro puts through an excellent kick deep into Romania's half.
    • 64' Calafeteanu adds the conversion to put Romaia level at 7-7. Will this relax the Romanians and allow them to play their proper game?
    • 63' At last Romania are over. This time their big drive works and Tincu touches down. Too much power for the Portuguese. 7-5.
    • 62' Romania twice try to chip past the Portgual defence before they win penalty for offside. Again Dumitras kicks right into the corner, five metres from Portugal line. Surely they'll come away with something from this attack!!
    • 61' Huge hit by Coutinho on Socol forces another turnover for Portgual but Pinto kicks directly into touch.
    • 58' Portgual force a turnover and Romania concede penalty for coming around the side. Well played Portugal and well played Pinto who sends them 50m up the field!
    • 56' Romania win their throw and it's looking ominous now for Portugal. Romania are over, but the ref cannot see whether the ball was touched down and goes upstairs. Just as well as the ball was never grounded - there was a hand underneath it. Scrum five to Portugal!
    • 55' Cordeiro tackles man without the ball and allows Dumitras to kick Romania into Portugal 22m area for a lineout. Can they get anything out of this good field position? Portugal concede penalty for collapsing the maul and Penalva is warned by the ref.
    • 52' Romania are still getting nowhere trying to play down the middle and must try to spread the ball a little wider and stretch the Portugal defence. At this rate they are going to lose 7-0!
    • 50' Very little of note happening at the moment as both sides are making mistake after misatke, conceding too many penalties and chsoing to kick the ball almost every time they have it in the backs!! Not a great spectacle and probably the worst game of the World Cup so far!
    • 46' Romania picking up the tempo now and manages to spread it wide to the right. But again they've spilled possession!! Agggh!
    • 45' Huge up and under from Dumbrava but its too high and goes over dead ball line. Scrum back to Portugal. Complete waste by Romania but they steal the scrum and try to launch another attack.
    • 44' Not much appears to have changed from the first half. Still looks scrappy with too much kicking!
    • 41' Pinto starts the second half. Can Romania cut out the mistakes and take advantage of their clear advantage at the scrums?
    • 40' Dumitras makes another big clearance and the ref blows for half-time. A scrappy game so far although one can't help but admire Portugal's tenacity. They're a good deal smaller than the Romanians but they are making up for it with their skill and desire.
    • 38' Romania win their put inbut lose the ball at the base of the scrum and allow Portugal to launch one last attack in the first half. Leal chips over the Romania defence but they scramble back to clear the danger.
    • 36' Leal takes a high ball in his 22, he doesn't call for the mark and instead jinks his way out of trouble, kicks ahead into Romania's half and earns his side a lineout. Lovely play from the diminutive full back.
    • 35' Romania steal the ball at a scrum and feed it to their backs. But Dimofte concedes a penalty for holding on/
    • 34' Romania move the ball wide and at pace but pass to Dumitras, who looked like he was through, is marginally forward! Good effort from Romania but they need to tighten things up more.
    • 31' Romania again waste their lineout and Uva is almost through, but can't quite hold the pass. Scrum down Romania on their 22m line. Again Dumitras misses touch!
    • 30' Grubber from Jose Pinto moves Portugal into Romania 22 for lineout. Dumitras misses touch and Portugal counter attack before being forced into touch.
    • 28' Portugal intercept and Pinto find Girao. Portgual recycle and Pinto finds a good touch in Romania half.
    • 27' This time Romania concede penalty at the scrum for Balan driving in at an angle. But Pinto misses touch and Romania counter attack.
    • 25' Portgual's defence is inspired! They are on the back foot but their resiliance is forcing Romania into making a stream of mistakes.
    • 23' Penalty to Romania for Portugal tackling the player before the ball. Dumitras kicks them into Portugal's 22.
    • 22' Dumitras goes for a long drop goal. He's got the distance but it's gone right. Romania will be better served to hang on to the ball and try to get their gameplan going. Rather defeatist attitude goingt for such a long goal!
    • 21' Dumitras misses touch and Pinto replies. This time Dumitras finds a good touch in Portugal's half.

    • 18' Romania throw long but lose the ball and Ferreira forces his way over for the opening try. Well played Portugal! 5-0.
    • 17' Portugal in Romania's half now and Pinto goes for a cross kick which rolls into touch 10m from Romanian tryline.
    • 16' Little shape to the game so far but Romania's power certainly evident. Romania nick lineout ball near Portugal's line, but Portugal win it back David Mateus makes a superb break from defence.
    • 15' Nice play from the Romania forwards but they knock on and Portugal given chance to clear their lines.
    • 10' Portugal front row starting to feel the pressure of Romania's scrum but they won this one and Girao breaks from number eight and Pinto finds a good touch in Romania half.
    • 9' Portgual concede penalty at the scrum and Dunitras puts Romania down into Portugal half.
