Live Comments

  1. 6-3 - She's done it! It took SEVEN MATCH POINTS!!! But Serena Williams has equalled Steffi Graf's five WTA Miami titles. Ultimately, she richly deserved it, but Jankovic deserves credit a truly gritty and determined effort in the face of a serious head cold - or "man flu". Thanks for joining me. I'm off to sit by the pool and drink Mojihtos...if I can even spell them.

  2. 5-3 - Warning for racket abuse to Williams. Very unlike her. She's MAAAAAAAAADDDDDD!!!

  3. 5-3 - Quite remarkable stuff here. Williams had the title in her grasp and she's let Jankovic back in.

  4. 5-2 - WILLIAMS HAS MISSED FOUR MATCH POINTS. And suddenly Jankovic has a break point.

  5. 5-2 - Jankovic holds serve and she's not quite done yet. Williams will serve for the match.

  6. 5-1 - Jankovic breaks! Great effort, but alas a little too late methinks.

  7. 5-0 - Another break and the writing is definitely on the wall now.

  8. 4-0 - Williams gives a bloodcurdling scream as she smashes a cross-court forehand home. 4-0, and surely it's all over bar the shouting now.

  9. 3-0 - ANOTHER BREAK for Williams. Surely there's no coming back now. Jankovic is clearly suffering and Williams should have learned from her mistakes in the second set.

  10. 2-0 - Williams takes advantage and goes two games up.

  11. 1-0 - WHAT A MISS FROM JANKOVIC. Williams was prone at the net and she had the whole court to aim for, but she found the net. 30-30. That could prove a pivotal moment. Jankovic complains that the crowd are too loud.

  12. 1-0 - A time-out follows, but we're back into it with Williams serving. 15-15.

  13. 1-0 - Jankovic is getting medical attention here. She's been coughing and she's saying her ears are blocked. "I feel light-headed" she says to her doctor.

  14. 1-0 - Early break for Williams in the deciding set. She needed four chances to do it, but a smash makes it certain.

  15. 0-0 - AD Williams. Break point.

  16. 5-7 - And Jankovic has completely and utterly turned this match on its head. Williams ends a set she began in dominant fashion with a double fault - indicative of her loosening hold on this game. Jankovic deserves ENORMOUS credit. She could have collapsed under that initial barrage from Williams, but she held firm and stayed focused. What a final set we have here!

  17. 5-6 - 15-40! TWO SET POINTS!

  18. 5-6 - 15-30! Great defence from Jankovic, but she can only just reach a forehand and sets Williams up for a mighty smash to wrap up the point. It's in the net! She leads 30-15.

  19. 5-6 - Jankovic leads in the match for the first time. Williams appears to have lost a little of her conviction, and Jankovic is growing in confidence by the game. Williams to serve to stay in the set.

  20. 5-5 - 40-40. This is a seriously tense game.

  21. 5-5 - 30-40...pressure on Jankovic again.

  22. 5-5 - Huge applause for Jankovic. The crowd are just thankful for her turning up in the second set I suppose. $200 for half an hour of one-sided fair probably doesn't sit well with the people of Miami. She's behind 30-0!

  23. 5-5 - WHAT A BREAK FOR JANKOVIC!!!!!! Williams made four errors in a row and Jankovic is GIFTED a break. GAME ON!!

  24. 5-4 - 0-30...DOUBLE FAULT from Serena - her third. Not a good time!

  25. 5-4 - 0-15...Williams faults on her first serve and sends a straightforward forehand into the net to lose the point on her second serve

  26. 5-4 - Good hold from Jankovic - to 15. It's now Williams to serve for the title! This is going to take something special from Jankovic here. Williams has been serving brilliantly. Will she go for her shots, or try and stay in the points?

  27. 5-3 - Williams is just a game away now. All the pressure is on Jankovic...15-15.

  28. 4-3 - Jankovic holds. Can she break back?

  29. 4-2 - Simply superb serving from Williams. She wins the game to love and stands just two games away from her fifth Miami title.

  30. 3-2 - Jankovic rides her luck and saves three break points to hold. That was nervy stuff, but she remains in this match.

  31. 3-1 - FINALLY! Jankovic enters the final. She showed strong character there, and has a foothold in this set now. She MUST hold serve now.

  32. 3-0 - Jankovic leads 30-0 on the Williams serve...can she turn things round here. This may be her last chance.

  33. 3-0 - And another one. You have to feel Jankovic, she's playing Williams at her brutal best today.

  34. 2-0 - Williams blasts aces number four and five!! There just aren't words to describe this performance. At want of a better cliche, Williams is IN THE ZONE! She's so far inside the zone she can barely see the edge of the zone. She owns the zone.

  35. 1-0 - Williams breaks straight away in the second! This game will be over in time for supper if Jankovic doesn't liven up!

  36. 6-1 - Well well. Simply AWESOME stuff from Williams. Jankovic really isn't doing a lot wrong. That took little over 20 minutes.

  37. 5-1 - This is POWER TENNIS!!! Jankovic is dazed and confused. Williams blasts into a 5-1 lead. She's playing her best tennis for years here.

  38. 4-1 - A comfortable service game follows. Only one break so far, but the set feels more or less settled.

  39. 3-1 - This is great stuff from the American. She blew Jankovic away in that game to take the first break of the final and lead 3-1. Jankovic could lose this match in a flash if she doesn't get a hold soon.

  40. 2-1 - Williams starts her service with a brutal backhand down the line - WHAT A SHOT! She's hitting the ball EXTREMELY hard and looks very focused. Jankovic gets a point back, but Serena closes out the game to lead 2-1.

  41. 1-1 - Jankovic holds - she's striking the ball well and looks relaxed.

  42. 1-0 - Williams holds a powerful first service game to lead 1-0. Her intent has been stated. She looks very much on point.

  43. ----- - It's a hot day in South Florida at 28 degrees Celsius with the wind blowing at 22 km/hour.

  44. ----- - Welcome to LIVE text comments and scoring of the Sony Ericsson Open final in Miami between defending champion Serena Williams and world number three Jelena Jankovic!
