  1. - - Thanks for joining me this evening; make sure you stick around for all the latest news from Hamburg...

  2. - - Murray loses on his 21st birthday...no great surprise, as Nadal was clearly the favourite...the Spaniard is through to the quarter-finals...

  3. 2-6 - Nadal earns his first match-point as he gets to 30-40 on the Murray serve...he fires a forehand pass wide...deuce...but two points later, Nadal has his win!

  4. 2-5 - Nadal is just a game away from the quarter-finals now...Murray looks very frustrated, but he has had his chances today...

  5. 1-4 - Comfortable hold for Nadal, who then takes some treatment on what looks like some blisters on his hands...hopefully he can hold out...

  6. 1-3 - A brilliant pass down the line from Nadal takes the game to deuce as Murray again experiments with an approach to the net...and another poor volley hands Nadal break-point...WHICH HE TAKES WITH A QUITE SUPERB RETURN WINNER!

  7. 1-2 - A more comfortable hold for Nadal, helped by a really poor volley at the net from Murray at 15-30...he really should have put it away, instead Nadal is able to lob him...and goes on to hold...Murray needs to start taking his chances...

  8. 1-1 - Murray is immediately back in trouble...and Nadal breaks back to 15, taking his first break-point when Murray's volley at the net hands Nadal an easy put-away...

  9. 1-0 - Nadal is furious with himself as a couple of errors hand Murray a break point in his opening service game...and Nadal fires long to hand Murray the break! Great start to the set...

  10. 3-6 - The world number two earns a first set-point with an awesome forehand that Murray can't return...but the Scot saves it when Nadal fires wide...Nadal earns a second set-point...saved with an ACE!...but an ill-advised trip to the net sees the Spaniard take the set...

  11. 3-5 - ...and Nadal completes his escape from 15-40 to lead 5-3...chance wasted for Murray

  12. 3-4 - Murray gets to 15-30 on the Nadal serve when the Spaniard fires a backhand long...and a couple of break-points when a forehand flies long from Nadal...but he wastes them with two mis-hits from the baseline...deuce...

  13. 3-4 - Murray wraps up the hold to 30 with a service winner to stay in touch....

  14. 2-4 - Even at his best, it would be nearly impossible to compete with that sort of serving from Nadal, who earns a LOVE-Service hold.

  15. 2-3 - Murray wraps up a tricky hold to DEUCE with a second ACE. The Briton is definitely showing some form, but he needs to be absolutely consistent for the rest of the match if he is going to recover this deficit.

  16. 40-40 - An absolutely genius lob by Murray just nicks the back of the baseline, and Nadal nods gently in acknowledgement of the Briton's prowess. Rafa responds by crushing a meek first-serve for the forehand winner. Back to DEUCE.

  17. 40-40 - A fine forehand volley at the net helps dig Murray out of a 30-15 hole. Despite that and a first ACE of the match, Nadal still finds a way to get to DEUCE.

  18. 1-3 - An easy hold to the Mallorcan, who just parks himself at the net before forcing Muzza long.

  19. 1-2 - Murray sends the overhead into the middle of the net, and then choreographs a drop-shot that Nadal sends right back up the line for the winner. Nadal pressuring Murray's serve at 30-0 already.... And Murray shanks a bad backhand error wide to hand the Spaniard DOUBLE BREAK POINT.... Nadal collects with a flyswatter overhead at the forehand after a series of well-placed groundtrokes into the corners and a fine approach shot. Murray already trails....

  20. 1-1 - Murray takes Nadal's first point on serve to win the first five points of the match before Nadal comes up with a service winner.... Nadal, not looking on top of his game yet, drops to 15-30 down but comes up with an athletic backhand volley to get back to 30-30..... Murray is striking the ball very well so far, as the Scot looks like he has brought his A-Game. Nadal still holds his opener to 30 with an ace down the centre-line.

  21. 1-0 - The best possible start for the British number one Andy Murray, who holds to LOVE thanks to an impressive variety of tactics - including some serve-and-volley action.

  22. ----- - It was, of course, a year ago today that Murray badly injured his wrist on his 20th birthday, an injury that cost him three months on Tour and forced him out of both the French Open and Wimbledon.

  23. ----- - Nadal has won both of their previous meetings, with the two very close matches last year. Nadal beat him 7-6(5) 6-4 in Madrid and 6-7(3) 6-4 4-6 6-3 6-1 in Melbourne. Of course this is their first match on clay.....

  24. ----- - The first bit of luck goes against the now 21-year-old Andy Murray, as he calls tails and the coin comes up heads. Nadal opts to receive.

  25. ----- - Coming up in a matter of moments, the main event, Rafael Nadal versus 21st birthday boy Andy Murray!
