Live Comments
----- - Hard luck on Dechy who looks inconsolable as she puts her head down in her towel. A lucky point off a net cord in the second set kept Ivanovic in this tie and she kisses the net as she comes off court. A warm applause for both players.
10-8 -
Finally! A trusted forehand to Dechy's right kills off the match! Ivanovic wins this remarkable match!
15-40 - Dechy is making her wait...
0-40 - Three match points for Ivanovic...
0-30 - Ivanovic exploits the right-hand-side of Dechy by cooling hitting two deadly forehands past her opponent
40-0 -
Ivanovic brings out a big serve for her tenth ace.
8-8 - This match has become quite an epic. A confident exhibition of serving from Dechy.
8-7 - Ivanovic gets the benefit of an official review, it was close though - the ball looks to have touched the line by no more than a hair's breadth.
7-7 - The 29-year-old is going nowhere.
7-6 - Ivanovic holds. Who will come out on top in this encounter between youth and experience?
6-6 -
An ace from Dechy wins the game! Both players have now survived two match points each.
40-40 - Ivanovic spurns a second match point.
40-40 - Saved by Dechy!
30-40 - Match point to Ivanovic...
6-5 -
The umpire rules that a point (which Dechy had won)has to replayed when the Frenchwoman's headgear falls off. This seems to put Dechy off her stride (who chooses to remove her cap thereafter) and Ivanovic takes advantage to break.
5-5 - Dechy is coping admirably with the pressure by playing some of her best tennis in this game. Great groundstrokes and some unforgiving forehands.
15-0 -
Ace for Dechy. It went straight through Ivanovic - surely she should have made the return!
5-4 -
Incredible. Ivanovic managed to save two of the three break points but Dechy doggedly stands her ground to win the game.
0-40 - Ivanovic is rushing her shots and yet another break looms....
5-3 -
Three breaks in a row! Ivanovic now will serve for the match.
0-15 - The best point of the match! Dechy's shot would have been a winner in normal circumstances but Ivanovic gives chase and throws herself at the ball from the baseline - it shoots up the line at fenomenal speed. Dechy is powerless to stop it.
4-3 -
A huge smile for Dechy, disbelief from Ivanovic! The Frenchwoman keeps coming back into this match, she refuses to go away!
4-2 -
Ivanovic takes control of this set! She does ever so well to fight back from two points down. She finally converts on her third break point of the game. Is this the beginning of the end for Dechy!
40-15 - Firm hands from Dechy to despatch a terrific double backhand at the net.
3-2 -
Dechy goes close with a break point, Ivanovic wakes up and responds with an ace. Dechy flatly finds the net to surrender the game.
2-2 - Dechy does her duty. My earlier prediction of a break by each player is not looking too clever at the moment.
2-1 - Ivanovic makes a better effort on her serve and this time her opponent never gets a chance to break.
1-1 -
It's the same old story as Dechy saves a break point. Ivanovic is frustrated by a official review that does not go her way.
1-0 -
The pattern of the second set continues with the manditory break point saved. Ivanovic keeps her head and Dechy is not giving up on anything. Don't be surprised if we see the pair exchange breaks in this set.
----- - A delay to the third set as Dechy takes a bathroom break. Ivanovic shows that even when involved in such a important match she still retains her manners. She apologises to a ball-girl after accidentally bumping into her.
7-6 -
Ivanovic takes the set winning the tie-break 7-3! Can she motor on from here and finish off her opponent in the final set?
TB4-2 - Ivanovic breaks again to go 4-2 up at the change-over.
TB2-1 - A break each leaves the tie-break finely poised in the early stages.
6-6 - The tie-break will decide this set. Ivanovic shows her delight at securing the game with a raised fist of her own.
5-6 -
Another break point saved. Dechy has shown some battling qualities and as she holds she raises her fist in celebration.
5-5 -
Ivanovic survives! If she does go on to win Wimbledon that shot that came off the net cord will be her defining moment.
40-40 - She saves one and unbelievably staves off the second when her return hits the net cord and luckily goes over to land on Dechy's side of the court. Heart-stopping stuff!
15-40 - Two match points for Dechy!
4-5 -
Ivanovic is beginning to take up good positions and find spaces for passing shots but at the critical moment she can't break Dechy, who is also playing intelligently from the baseline.
4-4 - No shakey moments from Ivanovic, just efficiency.
3-4 -
A big first save saves Dechy at break point. Perhaps the nerves are creeping in for the Frenchwoman. Nevertheless, a hold on serve means Ivanovic's nerves will be put to the test next.
3-3 -
No escape for Ivanovic as Dechy breaks!
0-40 - Just when you thought Ivanovic had turned a corner, she is down by three break points. There is further drama when she thinks Dechy hits out by a challenge with Hawkeye proves otherwise and the point must be replayed...
3-2 -
For all the hard work she put into the first set, Dechy is in danger of having to go back to the starting board when she gives away numerous break points during this game. She has enough mental strength to save them all and thens holds to Ivanovic's frustration.
3-1 - More of a swagger to Ivanovic. The confidence has grown and it shows with her shot-making. Dechy could only watch and admire a stunning cross-court return.
2-1 -
Would you believe it! Ivanovic snaps out of the doom and gloom to reassert herself on this match. A sudden upping of her game leaves Dechy stunned as her serve is broken.
1-1 - You can still sense some hesitancy on the Ivanovic serve, but she will be relieved to come through a reasonably comfortable game.
0-1 - Ivanovic looks miserable. She has opportunities to test Dechy's resolve, but the Frenchwoman is looking far the more composed and relaxed of the two and deals with whatever the number one seed returns her way.
6-7 -
Ivanovic is again paying for a poor rate of first serves in. She tries to make ammends with an ace but the damage is already done and she hits a shot woefully long for Dechy to take the tie-break 2-7 and the first set. We could have an upset on our hands!
TB1-5 - Dechy takes a commanding lead at the change-over by breaking twice. An Ivanovic double fault compounds that earlier failure to hold.
6-6 - Ivanovic tries to avoid the tie-break, winning one point with a clever forehand volley at the net, but Dechy keeps her nerve to win.
6-5 - Ivanovic whizzes through this game and Dechy must now serve again to remain in the set.
5-5 - A challenge on a point by Ivanovic saves her from losing the game when the official review shows the ball hit the extreme of the baseline. But Dechy keeps turning the screw through deuce and eventually holds when Ivanovic errors.
5-4 -
Ivanovic is in for a hard day at the office. Dechy is aggressive with her returns and her strategy is giving her joy. The Serbian can't deal with a stinging shot and returns it wide of the far sideline for Dechy to break.
5-3 - Dechy holds but Ivanovic twice fools on her forehand by feining the direction that she will hit the ball. She will need to be weary of that trick in the future.
40-15 -
Dechy's second ace. They now have two apiece.
5-2 - Ivanovic speeds through this game. The serve has improved and Dechy is reduced to sticking out her racket at the ball when it comes over in the hope of sending it back across.
4-2 -
Ivanovic recovers with another break, capped off by an exquisite drop-shot. Dechy is not executing well when close to the net.
3-2 -
Nervous moments for Ivanovic. She is struggling with her first serve and is put under enormous pressure on her second serve - narrowing saving three breaks. A fourth break point is too much to bear as she hits the net. Well done Dechy and it's game on!
3-1 - Thankfully for Duchy there is no repeat of her previous service game. Ivanovic sends a lob too long to seal the game for the Frenchwoman.
3-0 - Ivanovic makes sure she follows up her break with a solid service game. Some short rallys but Ivanovic was always in control.
2-0 -
In comparison, Dechy has an absolute nightmare of a start!
Ivanovic breaks to love. It is far too easy for the Serbian.
1-0 -
Good start from the Serbian. A couple of accurate forehands to the baseline and an ace are included in her repertoire.
0-0 - And Ivanovic serves to start the match.
----- - The World number one is also very modest. She has recently said that she is flattered by the attention she gets from male spectators but tries not to pay too much attention to it. She does have ambitions on owning a pet Labrador though... where did I leave the Yellow Pages?
----- - The Serbian Ivanovic is the new darling of the Wimbledon crown and her comprehensive 6-1 6-2 win in the first round was a great way to start as she seeks to follow up her victory in the French Open.
----- - As the two players warm up, let's mention that Dechy's best at SW18 is reaching the fourth round twice in 1999 and 2005. She is more well-known for three Grand Slams in doubles and mixed doubles rather than her individual play.
----- - Welcome to today's first game on Court One! Number one seed Ana Ivanovic takes on Natalie Dechy in the second round of Wimbledon.
