  1. 0-6 - WHAT A SHOT TO WIN WITH! Murray has to spin to meet Roitman's lob...he runs behind it and fizzes a backhand on the turn past the South American to seal the win! A cruise for Murray, who turned up the heat when he needed to.

  2. 0-5 - ANOTHER BREAK FOR MURRAY! He is cruising in this final set...just a game away. World number one Nadal is likely to lie in wait should Murray make it to the last four; the world number one is cruising against Bjorn Phau of Germany on Ashe as we speak. Murray insists that Nadal is a challenge he is ready to meet. "I don't feel I am far from beating Nadal," he said. "On clay, I'm a very long way off, but on the other courts, I don't think so."

  3. 0-4 - Murray is taken to four deuces as he just loses his concentration a little...but he turns up the heat to eventually hold...

  4. 0-3 - ANOTHER BREAK FOR MURRAY! If Murray gets by Roitman, France's Michael Llodra or Teimuraz Gabashvili await in the second round. He could meet world number 28 Feliciano Lopez in the third round and number 10 Stanislas Wawrinka in the last 16.

  5. 0-2 - Some big serving after Roitman gets to deuce helps get Murray out of trouble...he consolidates his break...and is well on the road to a comfortable win now.

  6. 0-1 - A Roitman error, firing his backhand into the net, means Murray has break-points at the start of the third set...AND HE BREAKS BRILLIANTLY WHEN HE TUCKS AWAY A VOLLEY AT THE NET! Great hands from Murray there to defend as Roitman twice drove balls straight at him!

  7. 6-4 - Murray serves for the second set...15-0 with a nice serve-volley combo...30-15 when Roitman passes well on the forehand wing...AND MURRAY CLINCHES THE SET WHEN ROITMAN MIS-HITS FROM THE BASELINE!

  8. 5-4 - Roitman, serving to save the second set...he does so easily...poor game from Murray, who swears at himself - under his breath. Such restraint for one so young.

  9. 5-3 - Murray has said he hopes to do well in New York this year; he definitely sees this as a chance to make an impact at a Slam: "I love New York as a city. When I missed Wimbledon last year I realised how much it meant to me. I always want to play great at Wimbledon and do well there but just for my personality, I think the US Open and New York suits me better."

  10. 3-4 - The Scot had a shocking time at the Olympics, admitting he had not prepared properly and taken enough water on board in the sweltering conditions. He pushes Roitman again on his serve, but the Argentine holds.

  11. 2-4 - Murray comes back from 15-30 down...he gets to deuce...and goes on to hold...4-2, and an important game that one, to consolidate the break.

  12. 2-3 - Murray earns two break-points for the first time in the second set...he wastes one by firing long from the baseline...BUT TAKES THE SECOND IN A DOMINANT POINT! The Scot grabs the initiative, upping the tempo to break.

  13. 2-2 - Murray has won three tournaments this year, including the Masters Series in Cincinnati. Six career titles overall; the boy has made a super start to his career, there is no denying that.

  14. 2-1 - Roitman looks more comfortable on his serve now; he holds easily...Murray is still waiting for mistakes, and the Argentine isn't making as many as before.

  15. 1-1 - A hold to love for Murray...Roitman has actually reached an ATP Tour last eight this year, in Houston...but he has won only seven of 24 matches at the highest level in 2008...

  16. 1-0 - Roitman will want to get off to a solid start in the second set, try to get a foothold and at least put some pressure on Murray...a fine winner off the backhand wing, though, and Murray sets up another break-point...but Roitman holds his nerve and holds with a fine pass when Murray comes into the net...

  17. 3-6 - A wayward backhand return from the South American, and Murray is two points from the set...an ace takes him to two set-points...and a failed challenge sees the Scot across the line...comfortable opening set for Murray...

  18. 3-5 - No problems for Roitman as he holds to 15...Murray will have to serve out for the first set...

  19. 2-5 - Easy hold for the sixth seed; Roitman hasn't played in a couple of weeks, since he reached the final of a Challenger event in Graz.

  20. 2-4 - Roitman holds to 15...Murray has cooled off since he got the early break...he knows he just has to serve out twice to take the opening set...

  21. 1-4 - Murray races to a hold, despite an errant drop-shot at the start of the game...he is doing enough here...Roitman looks a bit out of his depth, in all honesty.

  22. 1-3 - First meeting between these two players. Roitman was up to 62nd in the rankings less than a year ago, but has dropped back to 107. Loose game from Murray, and Roitman is on the board.

  23. 0-3 - Murray is playing a typically patient game, waiting for Roitman to make his mistakes...which he is doing plenty of in the early part of this match...he holds with a stunning backhand winner down the line...

  24. 0-2 - Murray earns two break-points when Roitman finds the net with a backhand...and the Scot breaks with another loose shot from the bandana-clad South American...

  25. 0-1 - Murray holds to 15 when Roitman fires long...the Scot isn't always a good starter, so he will feel happy to get on the board...

  26. 0-0 - OFF WE GO! Murray serves first, and starts with an ace...

  27. 20:10 - The players are out on court knocking up; we should have the start of the action in ten minutes or so...

  28. 0-0 - Hi there; welcome to our coverage of Andy Murray's opening match, against Argentina's Sergio Roitman...we're anticipating a comfortable win for Murray - but then when does he ever make it easy for himself?
