  1. 6-3 - Federer rushes ahead 30-0, and Gonzo shanks a forehand horribly to hand the Swiss DOUBLE MATCH POINT.... And Fed closes things out in style with a blazing forehand winner to wrap up the 6-3 6-0 6-3 victory in one hour and 22 minutes. A very strong performance for the four-time defending champion, who eases into the second round against a far lower-ranked opponent. Fed finishes with 15 aces and 39 winners, along with seven BREAKS of serve. Thanks for following our LIVE coverage and join us tomorrow.

  2. 5-3 - Federer holds to 15 to move one game away... He could very well close thing out on Gonzo2's serve.

  3. 4-3 - Two more BREAK chances for the world number two, as Gonzo2 gets very sloppy all of a sudden.... and that should be all she wrote as the Argentine sends the backhand error into the net after the long baseline rally. Federer leads this third set by a break of serve.

  4. 3-3 - Gonzo2 just bosses a point at the net, finishing up with the perfect half-volley drop-shot winner to get back to DEUCE... Federer still under pressure on serve, but he manages to hold with an ace out wide.

  5. 2-3 - Wonderful play from the unseeded Argentine earn him a LOVE-Service game....

  6. 2-2 - An easy hold to 15 for Federer this time, who does not want to let his rival get too much confidence.

  7. 1-2 - An impressive service hold to 15 for Gonzalez, who appears back where he was at the start of the first set, that is making things a little bit interesting at the very least.

  8. 1-1 - Federer faces a pair of BREAK POINTS, but saves the first with a well-timed move to the net and a half-volley winner, though Gonzalez finally returns to the scoreboard on the second, pressing the second seed into the net.

  9. 1-0 - Another BREAK for Federer, who wins his tenth straight game. The Swiss hit 16 winners and just five unforced errors in that last set.

  10. 6-0 - A clinical net point, and a ruthless hold 15 allow Federer to close out the second-set bagel. He's in the right place for bagels, New York City, and I'm sure he's hoping to collect as many as possible in these early rounds.

  11. 5-0 - Yet another BREAK for Federer, who is absolutely imposing his will on this match. He comes back from 40-30 down this time, and finishes the game with a huge forehand winner into the corner. Fed will serve for the second set. This first-round draw was certainly a good one for the second seed.

  12. 4-0 - Federer holds to DEUCE, but he doesn't look particularly pleased with how he did it. Still, the Swiss is just two games away from a two sets to LOVE lead.

  13. 40-40 - Gonzalez earns himself a couple of BREAK BACK POINTS, but each time Federer relies on some huge serves to save. DEUCE....

  14. 3-0 - A stunning backhand pass and a lucky let cord earn Federer yet another BREAK chance, and this time he collects as Gonzalez dumps a meek backhand into the net. The world number two stretches his lead, and this should be a quick affair yet.

  15. 40-40 - And Gonzalez saves another..... Federer smells blood, but he just can't finish the job....

  16. 40-40 - Gonzo2 saves another BREAK POINT with a fine service winner.....

  17. 40-40 - A brilliant cross-court forehand winner right on the line from Federer books him a couple more BREAK POINTS.... Gonzo2 saves the first.... And the second with a net approach after Federer botches what would normally be an easy forehand pass for him. DEUCE.

  18. 2-0 - Gonzalez comes back from 40-15 to stretch Federer, but the holder eventually pulls through the hold to DEUCE.

  19. 1-0 - Federer opens up the second set with a typically efficient BREAK to 15. This is exactly how he used to break the spirit of lower ranked opponents.

  20. 6-3 - Federer rushes ahead to get to TRIPLE SET POINT, before closing things out on his second chance to hold to 40-15 with a big serve out wide and a forehand into the oppossite corner as the Swiss wraps up the opening set 6-3.

  21. 5-3 - Federer is eventually gifted the BREAK after a Gonzalez double fault, and the Swiss second seed (gasp) will serve for the opening set.

  22. 40-40 - Federer earns his DOUBLE BREAK POINT chance but Gonzalez saves the first with a service winner, and the world number two (it's difficult to even type) slaps the backhand error into the net on the second! Back to DEUCE.....

  23. 4-3 - That's much better from Federer, who is at least serving well right now....

  24. 3-3 - A strong hold to 30 for Gonzalez there. He's hitting winners all over the place and really impressing right now.

  25. 3-2 - Federer struggles through a nervy service hold to DEUCE, and he is not having as easy a time as you would expect at the start of this match.

  26. 2-2 - The first four games have gone pretty comfortably with serve.....

  27. 0-0 - Welcome to LIVE text comments of Roger Federer's US Open first-round match with Maximo Gonzalez. We're expecting an easy match for the Swiss, but with the way he's been playing recently, nothing is certain.
