  1. 6-1 - Another MATCH POINT for Serena, and she collects this time as Vesnina sends the backhand error well wide. A dominant 6-1 6-1 second-round victory for the home favourite who moves onto a third-round match with Sugiyama in just 58 minutes.

  2. 40-40 - Another error by Elena Vesnina hands Serena Williams her first MATCH POINT, and the fourth seed can't confirm, slapping the forehand error into the net. Poor movement from the American on that point. DEUCE.

  3. 5-1 - Vesnina drills a spectacular backhand return of serve winner across court, to again book a DOUBLE BREAK POINT..... Serena saves the first with an ACE out wide, her sixth, but she double faults on the second and the Russian is spared the indignity of the second-set bagel, taking one of those break backs in the sixth. She will still have to serve to stay in the match.

  4. 5-0 - Another forehand error long for Elena Vesnina allows the American to BREAK to 15, and 45 minutes in Serena Williams will serve for the match.

  5. 4-0 - And the American does ultimately close out the service hold with an ace out wide, her fourth ace of the match. Still on bagel course....

  6. 40-40 - Serena gets a little bit sloppy to hand her rival a couple of BREAK POINTS, but she saves the first with a service winner and the second when Vesnina sends the cross-court forehand effort wide. DEUCE.

  7. 3-0 - Vesnina hits her third double fault to let Williams get ahead 30-0, and then fires a forehand error well out to gift her rival another TRIPLE BREAK POINT.... Which she confirms with a deadly backhand pass right up the line, after showing great instincts to reach the drop shot. Williams is looking for the bagel dinner in NYC.

  8. 2-0 - Thanks to some typically huge first serves, Serena battles back from 0-30 down to hold. She is really in a rush to finish this match up.

  9. 1-0 - Another BREAK of serve for Serena Williams, who as we said is running away with this match. This should be very imposing for her would-be third-round foe Ai Sugiyama of Japan and possibly even older sister Venus, who is her would-be quarter-final rival.

  10. 6-1 - Serena blows one SET POINT by sending a lob long, but collects on the second with a huge service winner out wide. That first set took just 24 minutes, and the second set looks like it could be equally as short.

  11. 5-1 - Serena BREAKS again after bullying her opponent from corner to corner before watching the tired Vesnina drop a forehand error into the net. The American fourth seed will serve for the first set.

  12. 4-1 - Serena converts the hold to 15 quickly and comfortably to move within two games of taking this set.

  13. 3-1 - Vesnina battles back from 0-30 down to get on the scoreboard with a hold of serve as Serena lofts a forehand approach well long. She put too much on that one and may have missed a chance to shut the door on this set, but is still very much in command.

  14. 3-0 - Serena pulls out the hold of serve to DEUCE. A little bit trickier there, but still pretty comfortable in the end.

  15. 2-0 - And the American favourite is already out in front against Russia's Elena Vesnina with an early BREAK of serve. Serena takes advantage of a string of unforced errors from her rival to take the early lead.

  16. 1-0 - Back underway for the late session on Arthur Ashe as Serena Williams opens up with a comfortable service hold.
