  1. 23:05 - Andy Murray has become the first Briton to reach a Grand Slam final since Greg Rusedski lost to Patrick Rafter 6-3 6-2 4-6 7-5 in 1997. Murray hit 21 aces, and 65 winners, to seven and 32 for Nadal in that match. Amazing tennis from the British number one, who will be world number four at the start of next week. His men's final with world number two Roger Federer is set to start tomorrow from 17:00 local time, or 22:00 BST and we will be bringing it to you LIVE! Thanks for following and join us then.

  2. WIN!! - 21-YEAR-OLD SCOT ANDY MURRAY IS INTO HIS FIRST GRAND SLAM FINAL!! Murray closes out the 6-2 7-6 4-6 6-5 over worldnumber one Rafael Nadal in three hours and 30 minutes with an astounding backhand pass up the line after easily reaching the Rafael Nadal drop shot. Amazing. Murray will play four-time defending champion Roger Federer in the final, and he might just be the favourite on this form.

  3. 40-AD - This is some of the best tennis you could ever hope to see, Rafael Nadal playing some amazing defence at the baseline, but Murray just setting up the volley winner perfectly by going from left corner, to right corner, back to left corner with such ease. MATCH POINT!!

  4. 40-40 - These baseline rallies are truly befitting the talents of both men, as both men give it everything but Murray comes out on top with a fantastic cross-court forehand. Back to DEUCE, and Murray now two points away again!

  5. 40-30 - Service winner Rafael Nadal. GAME POINT.

  6. 30-30 - Nadal gets his own net cord, but the big bounce allows Murray to whip the forehand winner right past the Spaniard. Andy Murray is two points away from his first Grand Slam final.

  7. 30-15 - Andy Murray is so close with the forehand up the line after the baseline rally, but close is not good enough.... 30-15....

  8. 15-15 - Murray gets nicely lucky as his cross-court backhand hits the top of the tape and just lands inside the tramlines and on his opponent's court. Nadal gets back to 15-15 with the service winner.

  9. 4-5 - Murray moves a game away with a decisive hold to 15, concluded with a 21st ace right down the T.

  10. 4-4 - Another enormously gutsy hold from the world number one, who begins to play more patiently forcing his rival into key mistakes. Murray is now 3-of-19 on BREAK POINTS. On serve in this fourth set. We would like to think Andy Murray still has the edge against the five-time Grand Slam champion.

  11. 40-40 - Murray is just long with the forehand!! Well saved by Nadal. Back to DEUCE.

  12. 30-40 - Nadal shanks the forehand after the 17-stroke baseline rally!!! BREAK POINT....

  13. 30-30 - A huge forehand up the line sets up a crunching backhand winner down the other line, and Andy Murray is two points away from getting to serve for a place in his first Grand Slam final!

  14. 3-4 - Murray hits a horrid drop-shot to allow Nadal to whip the massive backhand up the line.... But Murray lunges his racket to the ground to make an amazing backhand half-volley!! What a shot, and it's a worthy winner that earns the quick and painless hold to LOVE!! We were questioning Andy Murray's maturity a moment ago, but we apologise to him now. The emotion seems to be fuelling the Scot at this point.

  15. 3-3 - And finally, this time, Andy Murray has broken back!! He put some incredible length on that last return of serve to take control of the point, and just pressed his rival into the error! Back on serve in this fourth set, and Andy Murray again has a stunning victory within site.

  16. 40-AD - A great defensive forehand reach from Murray causes Nadal to send the sloppy volley error into the net and earns the Briton yet another BREAK POINT!!

  17. 40-40 - Murray is starting to look lost on course as he fires the weak return-of-serve into the net. But again, the Briton shows us something we did not expect as he grinds down Nadal in the long baseline rally.... DEUCE.

  18. 30-30 - Murray really losing his cool, and letting fly with the obscenities. Despite only 22, Nadal is so mature and he will almost certainly take cold-hearted advantage of any mental slips from any of his opponents. Murray finds some energy from that anger though, and wins a couple of very aggressive points to get to 30-30.

  19. 3-2 - Murray drills the service winner to eke out the much-needed hold to 30. You wonder how in the heck he's going to BREAK Nadal again though if he couldn't do it in that second game.

  20. 3-1 - Rafa hits his seventh ace to get to Ad In, and closes out the hold when the now error-prone Brit fires another forehand into the net.

  21. 30-30 - Rafa gets back to 30-30 with a blazing first-serve winner.

  22. 0-30 - Nadal starts off with a double fault to offer Murray some hope.... Followed by a slip and a forehand into the net to offer him some more hope....

  23. 2-1 - Another unforced forehand error from Andy Murray means that Rafael Nadal has broken to love, and this could be the continuation of a beautiful comeback.

  24. 40-0 - Again Nadal goes up 30-0 on the Briton's serve, and Murray is starting to look tired as he whips the unforced forehand error into the net to gift Nadal a TRIPLE BREAK POINT!! Shouts of "Come on Andy!" rain down from the stands....

  25. 1-1 - Murray shouts "NO!" and the crowd erupts as the Briton sends the error well wide to allow Nadal another GAME POINT, and finally he pulls through the monster hold of serve as Murray sends another backhand error into the net!! 22 points in that one game, and that was a crucial game as Nadal saved seven BREAK POINTS!!

  26. 40-40 - A stunning cross-court backhand return of serve from well behind the baseline saves gets Murray back to DEUCE yet again!! He knows this game will probably be his best chance to grab a stranglehold on the match.

  27. 40-40 - Nadal finally gets a GAME POINT with a service winner, but he misfires the backhand down the line to give Murray new life! Back to DEUCE.....

  28. 40-40 - A huge forehand down the line sets up another massive forehand up the other line and yet another BREAK POINT chance!! Judy Murray explodes in the player's box.... Nadal saves BREAK POINT number seven with a 124mph ace down the T! This just keeps getting better and better. 16 points in this game alone. Nearly half have been BREAK POINTS. DEUCE.

  29. 40-40 - An amazing stretch-backhand winner earns Murray another BREAK POINT after the pass winner, as the charging Nadal completely miscalculated that..... And again Andy Murray loses his BREAK POINT chance firing an unforced backhand error well long!! We think their may have been some naughty language from Murray after that point. DEUCE.

  30. 40-40 - Another grinding baseline rally, and another Nadal error lets Murray get yet a fifth BREAK POINT chance! The Briton completely dictated that 15-stroke rally, as he has most of these points tonight..... Wow! Nadal again saves, with a brilliant serve-and-volley play, concluded with a lunging second-volley winner in the open court after Murray did brilliantly to run all the way across the court to return the first-volley with his forehand.

  31. 40-40 - And the Briton can only send the short second-serve right back into the net with another backhand error!! This is no way to beat a world number one for a place in a Grand Slam final. Back to DEUCE.

  32. 40-AD - Murray earns BREAK POINT number four....

  33. 40-40 - Murray has a third BREAK POINT after an indecisive first-volley from the top seed lets Murray hammer the forehand right back at him..... But he blows it, dumping the unforced error into the net!! Massive topspin by Nadal there is what caused Murray to hit that into the net. Back to DEUCE.

  34. 40-40 - Saved! Service winner out wide. DEUCE. Murray still hasn't broken the Spaniard since the first set, having won that second in a tie-break.

  35. 30-40 - Saved! Serve out wide, forehand winner down the middle to wrongfoot Murray. One BREAK POINT left to play.

  36. 15-40 - It's now Murray who goes up 30-0 on the Spaniard's serve.... And despite reaching a near-impossible drop shot, the Briton loses the point as Nadal just flicks back the forehand winner in the open court. 15-30.... Oh dear! Nadal is in control of the point, but he folds under the pressure and sends a horribly shanked forehand wide! DOUBLE BREAK POINT....

  37. 0-1 - A great game from Andy Murray is wrapped up with another one of those huge cross-court forehand that forces Nadal out! The Briton pulls through a very nervy hold to DEUCE, saving BREAK POINT along the way. That could be hugely important.

  38. 40-40 - Nadal takes the first two points from Murray to put the 21-year-old under some real pressure.... Murray hits a fantastic forehand into the corner to get back to 30-30 though as he had to hit that shot perfectly to beat Nadal and did..... But he gifts away the BREAK POINT chance anyways by hitting his third double fault of the match!! Murray fires his 20th ace, though, to save! DEUCE.

  39. 6-4 - Nadal closes out the third set in style with a blazing cross-court forehand winner right on the left tramline! Spectacular as the Spaniard definitely deserved that set. Murray still leads two sets to one, but that margin is a lot less comfortable now.

  40. AD-40 - Nadal pounds his chest after brilliantly booking a second SET POINT with a massive forehand out wide that sets up the easy forehand winner up the line near the net.

  41. 40-40 - Murray saves it with the 120mph service winner right down the T, as confirmed by the Hawk-Eye instant replay as Murray uses one of his challenges. Huge play by Nadal. Back to DEUCE.

  42. 40-AD - And Nadal shanks the forehand error well wide!! Murray has BREAK BACK POINT!!!

  43. 40-40 - An astounding forehand into the Deuce corner helps Rafa get to SET POINT.... The crowd gets a little prematurely giddy.... And Murray turns defence into offence beautifully, as Nadal sends the forehand pass long! Both men got caught out of position, but it was the Scot who benefited. Back to DEUCE.

  44. 30-30 - Murray creams a meek second serve to set up a powerful backhand approach and get to 15-15. But the Brit misses a real chance on the next point, sending the forehand drop shot into the net. Murray is definitely the aggressor, and thanks to a strong baseline point he eventually presses the Spaniard into the error....

  45. 5-4 - Murray blasts through another hold to LOVE!! Nadal will serve for the set. 18 aces now for Muzza.

  46. 5-3 - Nadal is looking much sharper than he did yesterday. Despite some astounding defence by Murray, Rafa is able to win his seventh straight on point on serve since coming back today. The Spaniard wraps up the hold to 15 with a service winner and the shot of "VAMOS!" Nadal is one game away from collecting his first set.

  47. 4-3 - Murray looked none-to-concerned by Nadal's impressive opening service game, as he rushes through his own hold to LOVE.

  48. 4-2 - Rafa opens up in some style with a blazing forehand winner up the line. He then closes out the hold to LOVE with an equally authoritative inside-out forehand winner. An imposing start, and Nadal could rush through this set if Murray's not careful.

  49. 3-2 - Nadal is serving first in the hopes of solidifying his recently won BREAK. They're back underway in New York......

  50. 21:35 - American Steve Ullrich is the chair umpire today. The illustrious Sean Fay has noted that the man has an unusually large microphone. We'll see if that comes into play today.

  51. 21:30 - Both men are back on court now, with Rafael Nadal getting quite a bit of love from the Arthur Ashe fans. Andy Murray looks very cool right now, as does Rafa, as always. The start of this match was played on Louis Armstrong yesterday, but it should be finished today on Arthur Ashe. The sun is shining and the sky is blue, so we aren't expecting any further delays. It's a hot 27 degrees Celsius out there. Scroll down to see how yesterday's action went, by the way.

  52. 21:25 - It's difficult to say who this 24 hour delay will benefit, as Nadal was losing when time was called, but we were speaking with Simon Reed earlier and the British Eurosport commentator said he believed that Murray would gain the most from the break. The reasoning being that the young Scot would have really struggled if he would have been forced to play a five-set four-hour plus slog against the great grinder Rafa Nadal.

  53. 21:15 - The start of this match has been slightly delayed from its originally scheduled time of 16:00 local time (21:00 BST) due to the fact that American broadcaster CBS was airing the opening day NFL game between Brett Favre's New York Jets and Chad Pennington's Miami Dolphins. The Jets won that thriller 20-14, a fact which is sure to please some in the Arthur Ashe Stadium tonight. The good news is that the skies are bright and this match is set to restart shortly.

  54. ----- - Welcome back to our LIVE coverage of this semi-final between British number one Andy Murray and world number one Rafael Nadal. The sixth seeded Murray was leading this match 6-2 7-6 2-3, though he was down a break in the third set, when this match was delayed yesterday.

  55. 20:40 - AND IT IS OFFICIAL: Organisers have cancelled play for today. The rest of this match will be concluded tomorrow from 16:00 ET (21:00 BST), with the women's final scheduled to follow at 21:00 local time (02:00 BST). The men's final will also have to be postponed to Monday for 17:00 local time (midnight BST). Thanks for staying with us and be sure to rejoin us tomorrow for the remainder of this match.

  56. 20:35 - That analysis does actually match up slightly with what Mats Wilander told us the other night in response to a reader question: "I think the emotion Federer felt winning gold in the Olympics has taken him to a different level, because I've never seen him as pumped up as he is at this year's US Open. He has allowed himself to be more emotional on court and not just play tennis as a physical game. It matters to his opponents when he shows emotions, because it takes away something from opponents and makes them think about things."

  57. 20:30 - alcyone_osho2002 has come up with this insightful analysis of Federer's performance against Djokovic: "by the position of his racket and his shout and facial expression, it seems federer has been doing some karate if that is so, he might have the edge on nadal this time as lately federer seemed a bit too stylish and not aggressive enough!" Ha-YAH!

  58. 20:20 - If this rain settles in for the remainder of the evening, as it is expected to do, then the Murray v Nadal semi-final will be concluded on Arthur Ashe at 16:00 local time (21:00 BST) tomorrow and followed immediately by the women's final between Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic, which had been scheduled to take place later tonight. The men's final would then be moved to Monday at 17:00 local time (midnight BST). We'll keep you posted if we hear anything official about the schedule.

  59. 20:10 - This seems as good a time as any to check out the message boards, which are already ripe with comments about Roger Federer's semi-final victory over Novak Djokovic. Stephen M writes: "Good man Roger! Personally I think he has been just doing enough up until now against the weaker, for want of a better term, players! But today when he was playing the no. 3 and seeing his no.2 spot in danger he stepped it up and showed what he's made of and he'll do the same in the final! I hope it's Nadal! I would love to see another Fed vs. Rafa final! And to see Roger beat him!"

  60. 20:00 - Just to keep you updated as to how the weather's going now, the sky is very dark, and Louis Armstrong Stadium is all-but empty. Welcome Hanna (and I ain't talking about Montana).

  61. 19:48 - And they have finally been told to leave the court as play has been suspended on Louis Armstrong and this could be a very long wait, as the forecast is calling for nothing but rain for the rest of the day. Who knows? This might even affect tonight's women's final. Let's hope not.

  62. 19:41 - Oh no! It looks like the remains of Hurricane Hanna have finally arrived at Flushing Meadows at 14:41 local time! The two men are going to wait on the side of the court to see if play will be called, which I'm sure it will. Once this storm starts, it's not expected to start for quite some time.

  63. 3-2 - A great save for Andy Murray, who comes back from 30-0 down to hold with four straight points, concluded with a service winner and an ace.

  64. 30-30 - "VAMOS!" Rafa sees a mental lapse, and as Murray hits his seventh unforced error of this set, the match enters its second hour and Nadal goes up 30-0 on his rival's serve..... Murray gets back to 30-30, however, with a great defensive backhand. The line was there for the taking for Rafa, but he sent it wide.

  65. 3-1 - Nadal stretches the lead with a hold to 30, which included a couple of crucial service winners. An interesting stat, Nadal is the only lefty Murray has ever lost to as a professional.

  66. 2-1 - Murray breezes through the hold to 15 with an ace and a service winner. Nadal still has that break lead though.

  67. 2-0 - Nadal's confidence is clearly up as Murray tries a cheeky little drop-volley that Rafa launches right back at him with the backhand. The Spaniard holds to 30.

  68. 1-0 - Murray hits his first lull of the match, handing Nadal a DOUBLE BREAK POINT, his first of the match, with a backhand error wide. And Rafa confirms with the huge return-of-serve that forces Murray long!! "VAMOS!!" shouts the Mallorcan superstar.

  69. 6-7 - An airplane is heard overhead, probably coming or going from the nearby La Guardia airport, and Nadal sends the backhand error well wide of the tramlines!! In his first major semi-final, British number one Andy Murray is two sets to LOVE up on the world number one!

  70. TB5-6 - What drama! Nadal is tricked by the kick-serve and his forehand return hits the top of the tape, and just bounces onto his own side!! Murray then comes up with the service winner to get to SET POINT....

  71. TB5-4 - Murray brutalises a short Nadal return for the easy cross-court forehand winner. But Nadal stays on serve by grinding out the baseline rally as Murray sends the backhand well long, and then hitting the service winner down the T. The pressure is going to really be on Andy now.

  72. TB3-3 - And Murray hits his first double!! At the change of ends the tie-break is back on serve.

  73. TB2-3 - Nadal hits a poor drop volley and Murray easily reaches it and whips the forehand winner up the line to claim another mini-break. Nadal comes up with the service winner, but Murray still leads the breaker 3-2.

  74. TB1-2 - Murray opens up with a mini-break with a very aggressive point. Nadal claims it right back, however, with a scorching forehand winner after the deep return into the corner. And Muzza comes up with the ace down the T at 130MPH to keep the breaker on serve.

  75. 6-6 - Nadal hits the backhand error on the return to hand Murray the Advantage, and Murray completes the recovery from 15-30 with an honest service winner to send this second set into a tie-break.

  76. 6-5 - Another epic game is ended with a Nadal ace. Two more break points for Murray in that game and both points developed into long rallies and Nadal really had to play some superb tennis to win both points. You have to hand it to the Spaniard, he has really dug deep in this set despite being on the backfoot and now Murray will need a tie-break if he is to take the set.

  77. 5-5 - Murray holds to love yet again - why would I have ever doubted him?

  78. 5-4 - Yet again it is not easy for Nadal as he has to come back from 0-30 down and also survive a deuce before taking the game. But this is the worrying thing for Murray - he has been so dominant but if he doesn't win this next game then they will be all square at a set each.

  79. 4-4 - Great winner down the line from Nadal starts the game but then the usual pattern emerges, as Murray keeps the points on his own serve short and holds to 15.

  80. 4-3 - Almost a look of resignation from Nadal as Murray fizzes another winner past him to start the game. However, this was one of the easier holds for him - he takes the game to 15.

  81. 3-3 - Ace number seven for Murray is immediately followed by ace number eight as Murray holds with ease to 15 once again.

  82. 3-2 - Nadal has to come to the net to win a few points as he again is forced to really scramble to hold. Murray had yet another two break points in that game and on the second one he looked as if he might take it but his sliced drop shot wasn't quite subtle enough. Still some more cracking winners in that game.

  83. 2-2 - But again Murray having very few problems on his own serve. He fires another ace down the tea to wrap up a love service game and Nadal needs to find some answers here. Next break is crucial.

  84. 2-1 - Nadal saves THREE break points before digging out a hold as Murray continues to look the more dangerous player. The Scot probably just a little too aggressive on the break points as he looked for that elusive winner, but you can't really criticise his tactics thus far.

  85. 1-1 - Murray is taken to deuce for the first time on his own serve as he starts hitting a few shots into the net that were previously sailing over. However, another ace gives him advantage and then he wins the next point to grab the hold.

  86. 1-0 - Nadal produces three big serves in a row to get him out of a little 15-30 hole and take the first game of the second set.

  87. 2-6 - MURRAY TAKES THE SET. Nadal fights back from 30-0 down to 30-30 but then Murray gets the two points he needs to wrap up a phenomenal set of tennis. Untouchable on his own serve and all over Nadal's, Murray can't have played better than this too many times in the past if at all. The power he is getting in his shots is perhaps the most impressive thing of all. Interestingly though, it is he and not Nadal that decides to take a bathroom break.

  88. 2-5 - MURRAY BREAKS AGAIN: From 40-30 down he then follows a superb backhand cross court winner with a forehand bullet down the line. That brings up break point and Nadal tries a little drop slice from near the net but the Scot races to the ball just in time and guides a winner down the court. What a performance so far from Murray.

  89. 2-4 - Booming serving again from Murray helps him hold to 15 without any hint of danger. Nadal just can't get into points on Murray's serve, he doesn't usually have that problem.

  90. 2-3 - Nadal holds but only after having been brought to deuce by Murray once again. Excellent returning for the Scot; he is really looking to fire his baseline shots deep so as to not let Nadal find any rhythm. However, Nadal got the upperhand in a few points in that last game by finding some quality range himself with his forehand.

  91. 1-3 - Such a classy start for Murray as he manages to hold to love once again. He hasn't lost a point on serve all game and Nadal has still to find his range.

  92. 1-2 - BREAK MURRAY: Murray adopts a more patient attitude in the third game with the odd change up here and there and it quickly earns him two break points. He only needs one though as another fine deep ground stroke leads Nadal to scooping a shot long. Murray hitting the ball as sweet as a nut so far while Nadal is still feeling himself into things. Promising for the Scot.

  93. 1-1 - Very composed service game from Murray as he holds to love without having to win any significant rallies.

  94. 1-0 - Very aggressive start from Murray against the Nadal serve and it helps him take 0-15 and 15-30 leads but then Nadal edges a long, powerful rally by crushing a winner home from the middle of the court. The Spaniard then seals the game with an ace. Still, encouraging signs from Murray.

  95. 0-0 - Just about to get underway - as I said it is not full but the crowd in the stadium are making a lot of noise - Nadal serving in this opening game.

  96. 0-0 - Players out on court now having their warm-up. Nadal leads the head-to-head 5-0 including straight set wins in Toronto and Wimbledon already this year.

  97. - - Not sure how they arranged the tickets for this match but there are still plenty of empty seats around the stadium with the players expected any moment.

  98. - - Welcome to Louis Armstrong court for this second semi-final between Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. Not where we expected to be this Super Saturday but this match has been moved due to the forecasted rain for later.
