  1. WIN!! - Federer blasts the forehand winner on the edge of the baseline to finish this victory as well as he started it, closing out the 6-3 5-7 7-6 6-2 win over Serbian third seed Novak Djokovic in two hours and 45 minutes. Roger Federer will play in the US Open final with the chance to win a fifth straight Flushing Meadows title. Up next, either great rival Rafael Nadal or British number one Andy Murray. Thanks for following our LIVE coverage and join us for the men's final tomorrow!

  2. 40-0 - Federer starts this game off with his 20th ace! He then hits a phenomenal drop shot winner with the backhand! So good. Djokovic then hits the unforced error to hand the Swiss TRIPLE MATCH POINT!!

  3. 5-2 - Two more BREAK POINT chances for Federer..... And he gets it on the first!! A brilliant rally ends with the Swiss tracking down the volley drop shot, and blasting a forehand towards the Serbian's backhand side, which Djokovic can only lunge at and send well wide!! The former world number one will serve for the match!!

  4. 4-2 - Whoop, there it is. Service winner out wide, ace out wide, Federer holds to DEUCE. The second seed is two games away from his fifth straight US Open final. The Swiss has 19 aces.

  5. 40-40 - Federer fires his third ace in this game, but he can't yet close it out.... DEUCE.

  6. 40-40 - Federer hits a couple of aces down the T to get to 40-30. But he winds up a bit too much after the net cord from Djokovic and sends the forehand error well long. DEUCE.

  7. 3-2 - Djokovic sends the sloppy backhand error into the net, and Federer is gifted a third chance to BREAK in this game.... The Swiss confirms with some fine defence with his backhand, as the Serbian sees his own backhand error hit the top of the net and bounce out wide! Roger Federer leads by a set and a break here in the fourth.

  8. 40-40 - Two more BREAK POINT chances for Roger Federer, as the crowd really starts to get behind their man.... Djokovic saves the first with a gutsy return into the corner.... And the second with a service winner out wide! DEUCE.

  9. 2-2 - Federer pulls through in the end as Djokovic eventually sends the forehand error long. That was one of the best games of the match.

  10. 40-40 - Both men are starting to play some really fine shots along the baseline, as the standard of play picks up significantly with winners flying off of the rackets of each of them. Djokovic, making some very fine moves to the net to earn successive winners, battles back to DEUCE. A few chants of "Nole, Nole, Nole!" can he heard, but Djokovic's fans are definitely outnumbered.

  11. 1-2 - Djokovic again powers through a tricky hold to 30, firing the serve out wide that sets up the clever backhand up the line.

  12. 1-1 - Federer breezes through his own LOVE-Service game. The Swiss again looks like he has the edge.

  13. 0-1 - And Djokovic pulls through the very nervy hold to DEUCE with a service winner in the end. Impressive from the third seed. The mediocrity of that last set is reflected in the stats. As Djokovic had 12 unforced errors and Federer had 13, with the Serb 56% on first-serve and the Swiss 51%.

  14. 40-40 - Federer finds the angle to earn himself another BREAK POINT! And Djokovic saves with some stunning play at the net, wrapped up with the perfectly cut volley winner. DEUCE.

  15. 40-40 - Federer's stunning form continues, as he pressures the 21-year-old Serbian into an error to earn a BREAK POINT chance in this very first game. And Djokovic saves with a massive forehand into the corner after bullying Federer from side-to-side. Some brilliant defence from Federer is not enough. DEUCE.

  16. 7-5 - Federer books his DOUBLE SET POINT with a service winner down the T..... Djokovic saves the first with an astonishing cross-court return of serve winner, that is originally called out, but actually was one millimetre inside on the line as confirmed by the Hawk-Eye instant replay system! Federer confirms on his second SET POINT, however, dragging the backhand drop across court and forcing his rival into the net! The four-time champion is one set away from his fifth successive US Open final.

  17. 6-5 - And the Swiss takes the lead!! He confirms with another brilliant backhand that forces Djokovic to send his lunging volley effort long. The world number two will serve for the two sets to one lead.

  18. 40-30 - Out of nowhere, Federer has suddenly returned his game to the level it was at in the first-set, as he fires another gorgeous backhand into the very corner of the court for the clean winner to go up 15-0. And Federer books a BREAK POINT as this match enters its second hour when Djokovic sends a forehand error into the net. The Serbian signals at the crowd a sarcastic thumbs up, indicating that he was unhappy with their excessive noise. Immature from both the crowd and the player, both of whom should no better. BREAK POINT Federer.....

  19. 5-5 - Federer just powers through the LOVE-Service game, hitting repeated service winners and wrapping it up in trademark fashion with a sweet one-handed backhand winner up the line.

  20. 4-5 - Djokovic breezes through the hold to 15, finishing it off with back-to-back aces. Again Roger Federer will have to serve to stay in a set.

  21. 4-4 - Federer relies on his first-serve to salvage another tricky hold to 30. Still on serve....

  22. 3-4 - Fed sends the meek backhand return of serve into the bottom of the net to gift his rival the easy hold to 15. Still on serve in this mediocre third set.

  23. 3-3 - Federer hits a couple of crucial unforced errors to gift the 2007 runner-up a 30-0 advantage.... Fed battles back, firing his 12th ace to win his third straight point, before closing out the hold to 30 with the clever forehand winner across court as he catches Djokovic running along the baseline in the wrong direction.

  24. 2-3 - Djokovic holds to 15 easily to keep this third set on serve.

  25. 2-2 - Federer pulls out the hold in the end, hitting his best volley in some time then watching as Djokovic hits the unforced error. Neither man is playing to his ability. The audience does try to spark Federer with shouts of "Come on Roger!"

  26. 40-40 - Djokovic sends an amazing backhand winner into the very edge of the Deuce corner to battle back to DEUCE on Federer's serve. The Swiss under pressure now.

  27. 1-2 - Djokovic grinds out another hold to DEUCE thanks to the Federer errors. The match has repeatedly been there for the taking for Federer, but he has not had it in him.

  28. 40-40 - And the crowd actually applauds the Djokovic double fault, his fifth, which hands Federer another critical BREAK POINT chance.... But Federer shakes his head in disbelief after slicing the backhand error into the net on the return of serve. Back to DEUCE.

  29. 40-40 - A poor drop shot by Djokovic allows Federer to casually whip the forehand winner up the line to get to DEUCE again on Djokovic's serve.

  30. 1-1 - Federer hits his ninth ace to go up 40-15 and follows that up with a first-serve winner to hold comfortably to 15. Federer has won 70% of points on first-serve, but is better on second-serve winning 74% of those points. An odd stat for you.

  31. 0-1 - Djokovic pulls through with a couple of service winners. Federer hit 11 unforced errors in that second set.

  32. 40-40 - And Federer forces his possibly exhausted rival into the error to collect his third BREAK POINT of the match (the Swiss has broken on the previous two). But this time Djokovic saves with a big serve out wide that forces the short return of serve and allows him to collect the winner at the net. The wind is really kicking up as the storm approaches. DEUCE.

  33. 5-7 - And the fans do not like that, except for the ones in the front row who belong to Novak Djokovic's family. Federer gets another chance to put a way a point at the net after Djokovic's return of serve is short, but he shanks a forehand horribly wide to gift his rival the second set and make this match level after one hour and 12 minutes.

  34. 30-40 - Funny man Will Ferrell likes it, as the "Anchorman" star applauds in the crowd after Federer saves another SET POINT with a huge serve out wide that sets up the forehand winner up the line to completely wrongfoot Novak Djokovic.

  35. 15-40 - Djokovic is just long with the forehand on the first....

  36. 0-40 - An indecisive first volley lets Djokovic back into a point, and the Swiss's second volley hits the top of the tape and just rolls onto the his own court! A second straight unforced error hands Djokovic a 30-0 lead and puts him within two points of taking this set.... And a horribly shanked backhand error hands Novak Djokovic TRIPLE SET POINT!

  37. 5-6 - Djokovic starts another service game with a double fault. He then impresses the partisan fans (partisan in favour of Federer) with a beautifully controlled fading overhead smash into the corner. The Serb ultimately pulls out the hold to 15 to again edge ahead. Federer will serve to force the tie-break.

  38. 5-5 - Federer rushes through the hold to LOVE as Djokovic plays another very sloppy game. You would have to say that the Swiss is back in control of this second set.

  39. 4-5 - Djokovic blasts a sweet backhand cross-court to close out the hold and prevent possible disaster.

  40. 40-40 - Djokovic fires the double fault to let Federer go up 30-0 on his serve. He gets back to 30-30 with a pair of cheap first-serve winners. He then pulls Federer to the centre of the court with the big serve down the T to set-up the gorgeous inside-out forehand winner. Fed pushes him to DEUCE though, grinding out the baseline rally.

  41. 4-4 - After dropping his first point on serve, Federer grabs the next three thanks to some steady baseline play and then closes out the hold to 15 with a service winner.

  42. 3-4 - Federer goes up 30-0 on the Serbian's serve, but hits a couple of critical errors to let him back into the game. He then fires a vintage backhand winner up the line and right inside the baseline to book a BREAK BACK POINT though! And Federer collects with a deep return of serve that forces Djokovic into the backhand error! The crowd is happy, and the Swiss is back on serve.

  43. 2-4 - Much better from Federer. He rushes ahead 40-0 and then closes out the hold to LOVE with a service winner. Djokovic may have been coasting. It is very hot and very muggy in NYC, with temperatures around 22 degrees Celcius and humidity at 76%.

  44. 1-4 - And Djokovic holds to 15 as the unforced errors are just flying off of Federer's racket now.

  45. 1-3 - After the serve-and-volley play, Federer is again beaten at the net by a great cross-court backhand that forces the Swiss to send his volley return long and give the Serbian an opening at 30-0. Djokovic books himself his first couple of BREAK POINT chances, as Federer's let cord allows Djokovic to make the move to the net, hammering the forehand into the corner to set up the overhead smash at the net. He breaks on his first chance as Federer sends the backhand error well wide! The Serbian is suddenly looking very confident.

  46. 1-2 - After going up 40-0 Djokovic drops a couple of points on serve, but still manages the comfortable hold to 30.

  47. 16:45 - The remnants of Tropical Storm Hanna, previously Hurricane Hanna, have been battering the eastern seaboard all morning and are currently over Washington DC and Maryland. If it continues on its current course, as it is expected to do, the storm should be in NYC sometime this afternoon local time, with the really heavy showers expected to arrive this evening around 7pm eastern time. Hopefully both men's semi-finals, at the very least, will be finished by then.

  48. 1-1 - Service winner. Second-serve ace (ace number five). Federer holds.

  49. 40-40 - Federer knows where Djokovic is going with the cross-court forehand, but he still can't get there in time and is forced into the error by the Serb's beautiful return. Back to DEUCE....

  50. 40-40 - An amazing defensive backhand by Djokovic is not good enough, as Federer whips the backhand winner up the line earning the applause from the crowd and from the Serbian. He can't close it out though, as Djokovic fires the deep return that forces the Swiss long. DEUCE.

  51. 40-40 - After rushing ahead 40-0, Federer is beaten by a scorching Djokovic winner up the line and again Federer lets himself get beaten at the net..... And the Serbian hits another forehand winner up the line to get to DEUCE! This is the first time the third seed has come close to threatening Federer's serve.

  52. 0-1 - The Australian Open champion opens up the second set in comfortable fashion, closing out the LOVE-Service game with a service winner down the T.

  53. - - Federer was a brilliant 83% on first-serve in that opener, hitting just three unforced errors, and losing only four points on serve. Again, save for his netplay, that was the Roger Federer we have come to know over the past five years (up until this season).

  54. 6-3 - Federer just nicks the centre-line with his service winner, as confirmed by Hawk-Eye instant replay.... But again his net-play fails him, as the Swiss dumps a pathetic volley effort into the net! 15-15.... Service winner, 127mph. 30-15.... Ace, 115mph. DOUBLE SET POINT.... Big serve out wide, forehand winner at the net, first set to Roger Federer, 6-3 in just 24 minutes. Fantastic.

  55. 5-3 - Federer appears to be coasting again as Djokovic rushes ahead 40-0 before closing out the hold to 15 with the clever drop-volley that sets up the easy volley winner in the open court. Federer will serve for the first set.

  56. 5-2 - Federer's movement is like a gazelle, as he swiftly advances to the net, cutting left, then right, then left again to hit the beautiful volley winner. The Swiss than hits the very edge of the baseline with a forehand winner that Djokovic can only stare at, before closing out the comfortable hold to 15 after the Djokovic backhand into the net. Fed is one game away now. It feels like he wants to beat the rain as much as he does his opponent.

  57. 4-2 - Djokovic gets back on track with a couple of impressive net points to go ahead 40-0. The Serbian, who could replace Federer as world number two if he wins this match, then wraps up the LOVE-Service game in comfort as Federer sends the backhand error well long. Fed may have just coasted through that last game, which could have been a mistake.

  58. 4-1 - Federer blasts through the LOVE-Service game, wrapping it up with his second ace. The slim crowd, who generally love Federer for his past exploits here and are none to fond of Djokovic for his recent war of words with home favourite Andy Roddick (which ended in Djokovic apologising to the American), are loving this. Just 12 minutes in and Federer is two games away from taking the first set.

  59. 3-1 - You may be able to fault his net-play right now, but you can't fault his groundstrokes as Federer rips the forehand winner up the line and then fires a deep return of serve that forces Djokovic out and gets the Swiss to 30-15..... And another scorching forehand winner right up the line gets him to DOUBLE BREAK POINT! And Fed bosses yet another point from the baseline to force his rival wide with the brutal approach and BREAK on his very first chance of the game! The Swiss, in imposing form, leads this first set.

  60. 2-1 - Federer has shown some weakness at the net now, first serving-and-volleying long, and then letting Djokovic beat him with a great pass to go up 30-15. Federer does eventually close out the hold to 30 with a service winner, but the Serbian now knows where the second seed might be vulnerable today.

  61. 1-1 - Djokovic opens up with three of his own service winners, before concluding the strong hold to 15 with a huge serve out wide that sets up the forehand winner in the open court. This start has been no less than we expected from both men.

  62. 1-0 - Switzerland's four-time defending champion is absolutely brilliant in his opening service game, starting with an ace, followed by a great forehand winner to wrong foot Djokovic, another winner and another service winner to start with the LOVE-Service game. We should be in for some very fine tennis today.

  63. 0-0 - Federer to serve first.....

  64. - - This is a course a rematch of last year's final, won by Federer 7-6(4) 7-6(2) 6-4, as well as this year's Australian Open semi-finals, won by Djokovic 7-5 6-3 7-6(5) before the Serbian went onto claim the title. Djokovic retired while trailing 6-3 3-2 in their last meeting at Monte Carlo, and Federer holds the lifetime 6-2.

  65. - - Welcome to this first US Open semi-final between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in a repeat of last year's final. The forcast is for rain later but at the moment the weather is clear.
