  1. WIN!! - A rally and a point worth of the title!!! Serena Williams closes out the 6-4 7-5 victory with a blazing backhand winner blasted across court after another wonderful baseline rally, as that classic match took two hours and four minutes!! The first thing she does is leap in the air repeatedly as if she were on a trampoline, the second is hug Jankovic at the net, the third is hug her sister Venus, and the fourth is hug her father Richard!! Serena Williams has won a third US Open title and is back at world number one!!

  2. AD-40 - Williams gets her second CHAMPIONSHIP POINT off of the Jankovic error!! And the crowd can't contain itself.

  3. 40-40 - On Game Point, Jankovic hits her fourth double fault and again Williams is two points away....

  4. 40-40 - JANKOVIC SAVES!! She takes advantage of a Williams net court to bowl her rival off of the court and get back to DEUCE.

  5. 40-30 - CHAMPIONSHIP POINT!! Williams drills a backhand into the corner that Jankovic just can't retrieve and has a point for the title.

  6. 6-5 - Whistles and shouts from the crowd, as Jankovic tries the drop volley, the lob, the second lob, but it's not enough!! Williams gets Game Point with the leaping overhead and over in the stands Venus explodes. Jankovic approaches the umpire to complain about the crowd, and they quickly turn against her. Very quickly considering how they had been so fond of the Serbian's brave efforts tonight. No bother, Williams hits an amazing lunging backhand volley for the drop shot winner!! What a shot, and Jankovic, who was moments ago serving for the set, will be forced to serve to stay in the match.

  7. 30-30 - These are some mind-boggling rallies. Jankovic cannot do what she has to at the net, as Williams easily retrieves the attempted overhead, but she does eventually win one of the longest points of the match by backing off to the baseline to drill the forehand into the corner. 30-30.

  8. 5-5 - A perfect drop shot from Williams earns her another BREAK BACK POINT and sends the crowd into raptures. Jankovic makes some astonishing lunging forehand reaches at the baseline, but when she came to the net Williams sees her chance and fires the running forehand pass up the line!! This is truly brilliant tennis, as the second set is back on serve. Jelena Jankovic is playing the match of her career against one of the all-time greats, and it probably will not be enough.

  9. 40-40 - Jankovic books another SET POINT with a stunning ace out wide! But she hits another double fault to again let Williams back to DEUCE!! The Serbian looks at her team's box and can only shrug her shoulders at her mom and mutter something at her in Serbian!

  10. 40-40 - Williams just drills the meek 83mph serve back for the cross-court forehand winner to earn yet another BREAK POINT and Jankovic saves with some stunning shots into both corners to eventually force Williams wide! DEUCE again!

  11. 40-40 - And a very manageable backhand is sent into the net by Serena Williams. Back to DEUCE.

  12. AD-40 - An immense point from Williams, who bowls Jankovic off of the court with a forehand into the Deuce Corner that the Serbian is very nearly able to return!! Still, the second seed faces a fourth BREAK POINT of this game.

  13. 40-40 - And the American sends the forehand return across court and just long on the final BREAK POINT chance!! Jelena Jankovic has now saved three BREAK POINTS and is two points away from levelling this US Open final....

  14. 40-30 - The Serbian saves the first two.... Still, one more to go.

  15. 40-0 - Williams gets TRIPLE BREAK BACK POINT with a brutal backhand into the corner.

  16. 30-0 - Oh dear! Jankovic hits the error and then the double fault to let Williams back go up 30-0 on her serve and move within two points of breaking back. The pressure could be getting to her....

  17. 4-5 - The American hits a couple of service winners to force Jankovic to serve out for this set. This is dramatic stuff.

  18. 40-40 - And Jankovic is forced into the backhand error after the lengthy baseline rally! And Williams saves three SET POINTS to battle back to DEUCE!

  19. 30-40 - Williams saves the first two with some strong plays at the net. Still one more SET POINT.

  20. 0-40 - Jankovic draws Serena in with the drop shot and then drills her with the forehand into the body. That wins her the point but comes with the risk of angering the mighty Serena.... And then again maybe not! Williams fires an unforced error and then is beaten by a stunning cross-court return as Jankovic books TRIPLE SET POINT on her rival's serve.

  21. 3-5 - Jelena Jankovic powers through the hold to 30 to move within a game of levelling this match! The crowd is loving this drama and on the verge of erupting.

  22. 3-4 - And Williams is clearly unsettled! She sends the unforced forehand error wide of the tramlines to hand Jankovic her first BREAK POINT chance of this second set! And Williams sends the backhand drop shot into the net to gift away the BREAK of serve!! Serbia's world number two has the advantage in this second set and could very well force a third!!

  23. 40-40 - Williams demonstrates her displeasure by drilling the backhand into the corner to set up the brutal overhead smash at the net. But she can't close out the hold, sending the unforced backhand error into the net! DEUCE.

  24. 40-40 - Serena lets Jankovic back to DEUCE after a couple of very close calls go against her. And she's not a happy bunny.

  25. 3-3 - And Jelena Jankovic comes up with the goods! The 23-year-old Serbian holds to DEUCE with a service winner, and is truly doing herself proud in her maiden Grand Slam final. You'll recall when Jankovic's younger compatriot, and the current French Open champion, Ana Ivanovic reached her maiden major final last season she was absolutely swamped off of the court by then world number one Justine Henin at Roland Garros. A completely different story for the perhaps more mature Jankovic.

  26. 40-40 - Jankovic is absolutely bullied into the error and Williams has her two BREAK POINT chances. Jankovic saves the first with a clever and brave move to the net for the angled winner on the volley.... And Williams can't finish it off!! She sends another unforced forehand error long to lose another BREAK POINT. If she lets Jankovic linger long enough, it could really come back to haunt her. DEUCE.

  27. 3-2 - Williams now recovers a 0-30 deficit to hold the nervy service game on the strength of her first-serve. Williams has come so close to putting this match away, you get the feeling that she really needs just one more chance.

  28. 2-2 - Jankovic pulls through another very nervy hold to DEUCE. What a courageous performance. She still has every chance of taking this set.

  29. 40-40 - Jelena gets a lucky net cord, Serena does her all to reach the short ball and Jelena just pops back the soft touch lob for the winner. Even the American can laugh at that one, as does the crowd, and eventually Jankovic when the instant replay is shown on the jumbotron. The Serbian number two, soon to be the Serbian number one when the new rankings are released, is still pressed to DEUCE.

  30. 2-1 - Jankovic puts her arms up in the air as the Serbian contingent in the crowd start chanting "Jelena! Jelena! Jelena!" after she wins the rally of the match, a 22-shot-affair played entirely at the baseline, with a brilliant backhand up the line and into the corner. Williams still holds to 30 with the furious leaping overhead smash at the net. That'll teach Jelena to win the point of the match.

  31. 1-1 - The Serb comes up with the huge hold, concluded with a crucial service winner. Gutsy stuff.

  32. 40-40 - The winners come fast and frequently now from both women, as Jankovic drills another one of those stunning backhands up the line to get back to Game Point.... But Serena's return of serve is way too much, and they are at DEUCE #3.

  33. 40-40 - Jankovic is long with the forehand and Williams has DOUBLE BREAK POINT. The American is playing ferocious defence now, but she sends the unforced forehand error cross-court and just wide after the lengthy baseline rally on the first.... And Jankovic saves the second with a big serve out wide and a great forehand into the exact same spot that Williams is just barely able to touch her racket to, but obviously not return. Back to DEUCE from 40-15 down for the second seed.

  34. 30-0 - Williams hits an amazing running forehand up the line, and Jankovic falls to the ground and shrieks in pain as she tries to reach the backhand half-volley and fails. The Serbian then hits the unforced error to let Williams go up 30-0 on her serve....

  35. 1-0 - Jelena has put up a good fight, but this is starting to turn bad. Williams breezes through the LOVE-Service game in the first game of the second set. Some stats from that first set, Williams dominating the tempo by hitting 19 winners and 16 unforced errors.

  36. 6-4 - But Jankovic sends the forehand error to practically the same spot, but just a bit longer this time and well long of the baseline, as Williams confirms the first set 6-4 in 47 minutes on her second chance. The match is now quite obviously Williams's to lose, if it wasn't already.

  37. 40-15 - Jankovic saves the first SET POINT with a massive forehand into the Ad Corner.

  38. 40-0 - Serena sends a brilliant running forehand winner across court to find the perfect angle and go up 30-0 on the Serbian's serve as Jankovic does her trademark splits to put on the brakes at the baseline. And Jankovic sends the unforced error into the net hand Williams TRIPLE SET POINT!

  39. 5-4 - Another lengthy rally, but this time Serena Williams sends the unforced error into the net! And Jelena Jankovic, thanks largely to the mistakes of Serena Williams, has broken back to make the first set of this US Open final slightly intriguing again.

  40. 30-40 - Serena saves the first two by winning a couple of mid-length baseline rallies. Serena commanding the points, now if she can just avoid the errors. One more BREAK POINT.

  41. 0-40 - Jankovic with TRIPLE BREAK BACK POINT as she gets to Serena's drop shot and angles it perfectly for the backhand winner! That was close, but just good enough.

  42. 0-30 - Oh dear! Serena has gifted Jankovic a 30-0 lead in this service game after hitting her second double fault! Jankovic just two points away from breaking back.

  43. ----- - A couple of famous Donalds in the house tonight, including "The Donald" and "The King" (otherwise known as Donald Trump and Don King). Apparently both Miss USA and Miss Teen USA are in Trump's box tonight. The man is a class act all the way.

  44. 5-3 - Jankovic does manage to hold to DEUCE. But Williams will still serve for the set.

  45. 40-40 - Jankovic again cannot confirm on Game Point, as the Serbian slips at the baseline and is then totally wrong footed by the Serena forehand winner. Back to DEUCE.

  46. 40-40 - Williams blasts a massive forehand right into Jankovic's volley, but the Serbian deals with it beautifully sending the volley winner back and earning a huge applause from the normally partisan fans. Williams responds by setting up another overhead flyswatter smash at the net to get back to 15-15. Jankovic then hits her first ace. But Serena presses her to DEUCE to move within two points of taking this first set....

  47. 5-2 - Williams fires the first ace of the night on her way to getting back from 0-30 down to 30-30. She then fires a 120mph service winner before closing out the hold to 30 with the angled volley winner at the net. The ruthless eight-time Grand Slam champion is one game away from taking the first set of this US Open final.

  48. 4-2 - And after Jankovic wastes one of her three Hawk-Eye instant replay challenges on a Williams service winner that was in, the American fourth seed comes up with the goods on the next point to BREAK serve yet again with a massive forehand into the corner. That's three straight games for Williams, who can practically put this set away right now.

  49. 30-15 - Another dominant point by Williams after the pathetic drop shot, earns the American a fly-swatter overhead at the net and the first point on Jankovic's serve. That's not what the second seed needed..... Better on the next point as she finds the right tramline with the forehand winner, her fifth clean winner of the match. Then a few too many shots from Jankovic, as the Serbian sends the backhand error into the net.... 30-15.

  50. 3-2 - Serena again bullies her rival from corner-to-corner along the baseline before setting up the volley winner at the net as Jankovic is completely wrong-footed. She follows that up with a service winner. But Jankovic shows off her own skills, blasting a backhand winner into the far Deuce corner of the court! Jelena shows off that big smile after that point. She really is one of the nicer, and funnier, people on the WTA Tour. No bother though, as Serena holds to 15 after taking advantage of a few Jankovic unforced errors. The American back in front.

  51. 2-2 - Williams only needs one chance, as Jankovic again misfires into the net. Back on serve. This could start to become one sided if Serena has regained her confidence.

  52. AD-40 - Serena fires a massive forehand into the corner that sets up the bigger swinging volley winner at the net and BREAK BACK POINT!

  53. 40-40 - Jankovic's retreival skills are beyond belief, and Serena Williams can only take a point by completely wrong footing her rival. 40-15.... Jankovic backhand cross-court error. 40-30.... Jankovic fires the unforced forehand error into the net and Serena Williams is back from 0-40 to DEUCE on her rival's serve. Not a good sign for the Serb.

  54. 1-2 - Three more errors and suddenly Jelena Jankovic has a TRIPLE BREAK POINT! The world number two confirms on her first chance!! She is barely able to put her racket on the serve into the body, but the return lands on the edge of the baseline and Serena sends her backhand effort straight into the net! The favourite trails already, largely due to her own mistakes.

  55. 1-1 - Williams lets Jankovic off the hook by pushing the dry volley well long. Finesse, not her strongest suit. Jankovic is allowed to hold to 30. Serena has six unforced errors.

  56. 1-0 - Jankovic goes to the net but does not put enough on her overhead, and Serena quickly counters turning attack into defence to set up the backhand winner up the line. The American takes the opening game, but not without some fight.

  57. 40-40 - The first three points provide one clean winner for Serena, one clean winner for Jelena, and another clean winner for Serena. Hopefully the standard will remain this high throughout..... Jankovic has come to play though! She shows off those trademark defensive skills, grinding out the long baseline rally to get back to DEUCE as Williams eventually hits the unforced error.

  58. 0-0 - This is obviously Janovic's first Grand Slam final. She had reached four major semi-finals before finally beating Elena Dementieva in her last match to reach her maiden final. Serena has been downright dominant on her road to this final, having reached the title match without dropping a set. In fact the only sets which were close were the two tie-breaks she won against Venus. Williams will serve first.

  59. 02:20 - This series is knotted at 3-3 with Williams having won their last match 6-1 5-7 6-3 in the San Diego final, but having lost their previous appearance 6-3 6-4 at the Australian Open quarter-finals, where Williams was the defending champion.

  60. 02:15 - Billy Jean King tosses the coin in the centre of Arthur Ashe Stadium at the Billy Jean King Tennis Centre and the two women take their picture together before the match.... We're moments away now.

  61. 02:10 - The two women are out on court now, with the home favourite Serena obviously getting the greater applause.

  62. 02:00 - Eight-time Grammy winner Anita Baker has warmed up the crowd by singing American the Beautiful. We are just moments away now from this US Open final between Serbian second seed Jelena Jankovic and American second seed Serena Williams. Jankovic is looking to become the second Serbian to win a Grand Slam this year, while Serena is hoping to become the second Williams sister to win a major this season after her elder sibling Venus beat her in the Wimbledon final earlier this summer.
