FIRST SET TO SPAIN!! Verdasco, whose bottle went as he went one break point down - missing a simple smash with Acasuso on the ropes before hitting long under no pressure - comes back to save it and hold, Acasuso sending a forehand long. The home fans quieten.

2-5 - Spain now within a game of the first set as Verdasco - after an initial double fault - shoots back with four straight points. Excellent approach play from the Spaniard.

The opening BREAK for Spain!! Acasuso cannot win a single point, hitting into the net and wide on his way to a two-game deficit. The small group of Spanish fans love that!!
2-3 - Verdasco again gives up only a single point on his serve to go back in front. He is not cowed by this crowd.
2-2 - Verdasco fires wide to give Argentina the service game after taking it to deuce. Acasuso too has both big winners and unforced errors in his locker so far today...
1-2 - Verdasco sends down an ace to retake the lead and keep the match on serve. He missed a simple volley at the net with Acasuso struggling, but got away with it.
1-1 - Argentina level as Acasuso comes up with a stunning driven winner and also lets go a couple of useful first serves. The fans are told to shut up a few times - 'Silencio, por favor!' - so buoyant are they at the minor triumph.
0-1 - Spain with the first game then, Acasuso only able to win one point as Verdasco's serve did the damage.
0-0 - Verdasco to serve first and wins the first point after following up with a volley.
- - The players are finished knocking up. The fans are in excellent voice. Can Argentina maintain that run of 13 straight home wins, recorded over a decade, by taking a 14th today?
- - Yesterday Verdasco, who is in good form, and Feliciano Lopez beat Argentina pair David Nalbandian and Agustin Calleri to give Spain a 2-1 lead. That means Argentina must win this first rubber of the day in Mar del Plata to take this final to a decisive match.
- - And the big news is that Argentina star Juan Martin del Potro cannot play due to injury - giving Jose Acasuso a chance against Spain's Fernando Verdasco.
