  9. 3-6 - No doubt about it, Serena is not looking her usual dominant self out on Rod Laver today throwing in a double fault to start the game but she has more than enough power in her groundstrokes to out-hit Meng and grabs the first set accordingly

  10. 3-5 - Meng produces another battling service game to stay in this first set holding from deuce

  11. 2-5 - Meng earns herself a break back point but fails to take advantage of it and three unforced errors in quick succession allow Serena to hold. Meng will have to come out and serve to stay in the first set after the change of ends

  12. 2-4 - Much better from Meng as she holds her nerve to stop the run of games against her with a huge first serve to bring up game point and firing away a ferocious forehand winner to hold

  13. 1-4 - Williams races through her service game, holding to cement the break and she is running away with this set now

  14. 1-3 - Serena grabs the first break of serve, battering Meng from the baseline until the Chinese player eventually hits a forehand long. Meng did well to save Serena's first couple of break point opportunities though
