  1. - - Thanks for joining me this morning; make sure you stick around for the rest of the action on this crucial day...

  2. 0-0 - MONFILS RETIRES! The wrist injury has got too much, and the unpredictable young star calls it a day. Simon makes it through to the last eight.

  3. 0-0 - Monfils is now getting his wrist taped up...looks like it is causing him a lot of concern...

  4. 1-6 - Simon wastes his first set-point when he dumps a simple backand into the net chord...although a really lazy, casual backhand fired well long from Monfils sees him serve out comfortably.

  5. 1-4 - Monfils is just getting some treatment on his right wrist between games.

  6. 1-4 - Another comfortable hold for Simon to move 4-1 in front in the third set...Monfils has been unable to exert any sort of pressure on the sixth seed's serve in this set.

  7. 1-3 - Monfils shows a nice touch at the net to close out a hold to stay in touch in the third set...he can look so casual at times, but brilliant at others.

  8. 0-3 - Simon keeps the pressure up with a relatively simple hold...seems like he has overcome his dodgy spell at the start of the second set.

  9. 0-2 - Some extraordinary defence from Monfils...but Simon eventually puts a smash away to hand himself two break-points..AND SIMON DOES BREAK WHEN MONFILS CHOOSES THE WRONG TIME TO GET CASUAL!

  10. 0-1 - History repeating as Simon starts the set slowly once more...Monfils punches home a volley to earn three break-points....Simon saves the first two with more positive play...AND HE WINS FIVE POINTS IN A ROW TO HOLD!

  11. 6-2 - A good serve out wide sees Simon return into the net and hand Monfils his first set-point...which he takes when his opponent again finds the net with a return.

  12. 5-2 - An extraordinary smash from Monfils gets him a foothold in the game...but a classy volley at the net from Simon sees him hold and force Monfils to serve out for the set.

  13. 5-1 - Simon stuffs a backhand return long to hand Monfils another hold from the difficult serving end...looks like the taller man is racing his way to the second set.

  14. 4-1 - Simon looks to be maintaining his do-or-die attitude in this second set...he races to his first hold of the set, including the fastest serve of the match.

  15. 4-0 - Simon goes for broke with a huge forehand return winner to get to 40-30...and good speed and control to chase down a drop-shot means he gets to deuce on the Monfils serve...but Monfils takes advantage of a couple of Simon errors to hold.

  16. 3-0 - A delightful sliced pass down the line seals a second break for Monfils...Simon has disappeared somewhere; he looks a different player to the one in the first set...his decision making has gone completely to pot.

  17. 2-0 - Monfils holds to 15 in double-quick time...Simon has started very slowly in this second set...he doesn't look at the races.

  18. 1-0 - Bit of a stunner as Simon is broken to love in his opening service game of the second set...a dreadful game from Simon, who almost hands Monfils a kick-start.

  19. 4-6 - Simon challenges as Monfils goes for the corner on a critical point...the replay shows the ball clip the back of the line, and Monfils edges 30-15 in front...but Simon hits back and forces set-point...great chance missed when he slices a forehand down the line wide...BUT HE TAKES HIS SECOND SET-POINT WITH A FINE FOREHAND!

  20. 4-5 - Monfils looks to be struggling with the heat in between games...he pours an entire bottle of water over his head and is really breathing heavily...

  21. 4-5 - Very strange game...first Monfils simply gives up and walks away after a poor return lands well short, allowing Simon with a simple put away...then Simon starts complaining about the sun in a succession of frightful serves...AND MONFILS BREAKS BACK!

  22. 3-5 - Simon is a delicate-looking thing, but he has got some power...BOOM! He takes the game to deuce by opening up the court before finishing with a towering forehand down the line...and A MONFILS DOUBLE-FAULT SEES SIMON BREAK AGAIN!

  23. 3-4 - Simon holds with a big ace down the middle...he has his nose back in front in this first set...this match is going to be nip-and-tuck all the way, I think...

  24. 3-3 - Monfils finds a ball he's not happy with...he shows it the umpire, but is told to get on with it....Simon isn't able to turn the advantages into his favour...he looks a little off-the-pace at the moment...three straight points for Monfils helps him out of a hole at 0-30...BUT SIMON GOES ON TO BREAK BACK!

  25. 2-3 - Slow-slow-quick-quick...Monfils moves to 0-30 with a fine counter-attacking point...and when Simon drifts a backhand wide it's three break-points for Monfils...he wastes two with frightful forehands....AND MONFILS BREAKS!

  26. 2-2 - Monfils double-faults...and then lazily dumps a backhand into the net as the score reaches 30-30...Simon earns a break-point when a Monfils lob drifts long...Monfils saves after a 45-stroke rally...and goes on to hold.

  27. 1-2 - A successfull challenge from Simon helps him hold to 15, finishing with a fine wrong-footing forehand when Monfils drops short.

  28. 1-1 - Simon earns a break-point with a nice volley at the net...Monfils saves it with a big first serve out wide...and goes on to hold.

  29. 0-1 - Simon starts with a double-fault...Monfils is full of counter-punching and explosive power...Simon wins to 30.

  30. 0-0 - OFF WE GO!

  31. - - The boys are out and warming up; it's another roasting hot day in Melbourne.

  32. - - It's a first-ever meeting between these two Frenchies; both are excited about the prospect. Monfils: "It's good for French tennis. I'm expecting a tough match, a baseline slugfest; it won't be easy because he's tough to play against..."

  33. - - Hi there; welcome to our coverage of this all-French fourth-round clash between Monfils and Simon!
