  1. 5-7 - Federer utilises Hawkeye again to claim an ace, and as he watches a Roddick lob go over his head and out he earns two match points. A forehand winner down the line sees Roger Federer reach the final of the Australian Open yet again!!

  2. 5-6 - Federer reads Roddick's slice at the net brilliantly and is on hand to pass him into the space for a third break point. He converts when Roddick can't return a forehand winner and Federer can serve his way into the final now!

  3. 5-5 - Federer earns two break points. Roddick whips a forehand winner across the face of Federer to save one and fires a backhand down the line for deuce! Federer earns another break point thanks to Hawkeye but Roddick slams a net volley to save...

  4. 5-5 - A great rally ends with Rodick powering Federer into the corner before dropping a backhand out of his reach. Buoyed by that he goes for a cross-court return winner that's just out, and Federer aces before slicing at the net to avert the danger and level the set!

  5. 5-4 - A tight game goes to deuce, and at Federer does well to beat back one Roddick volleyed smash but the second is hammered past him, and the American closes out the game from there with a diagonal forehjand winner right into the far corner.

  6. 4-4 - Roddick is unlucky to see a running forehand winner pas Federer but drop outside the line. All level as we move into the business end of the set.

  7. 4-3 - Roddick steps in to control the net well, volleying a neat drop shot on his way to holding to love. Rarely has a player held so many games to love in a Grand Slam and been on the verge of a straight sets defeat!

  8. 3-3 - Following that recovery to save his serve, Roddick takes a back seat as Federer holds to no great challenge.

  9. 3-2 - Three mesmerising winners give Federer a 15-40 lead and two break points! The first one is a running backhand that hits the net, and the seocnd is a long backhand from the baseline. Roddick misses a chance to hold with the first double fault of the match. He holds eventually via a sublime backspin backhand - and can't help raise a satisfied smile.

  10. 2-2 - Roddick drills an excellent two-handed backhand down the line right past Federer for deuce! Federer's replies with an ce, but hits the net in the next rally and we're back to deuce. The Swiss is caught on the back foot but still manages to hit a sublime backhanded winner, but Roddick smashes his way to parity once again. Federer eventually holds with an ace and an easy pass at the net.

  11. 2-1 - Roddick holds another game to love, but only after exchanging a few choice words with the umpire.

  12. 1-1 - Compared to A-Rod's injection of energy, Federer looks a cool customer as he serves out his own game. Mind you, this is his 19th consecutive major semi-final, so why get hot under the collar?

  13. 1-0 - Roddick slams home a couple of fearsome smashes and a delightful forehand winner as he makes a statement of intent by opening the third set in style.

  14. 5-6 - Roddick was so close to forcing the breaker, but one lapse of concentration and Federer is all over it. After earning three break points with some spectacular winners, Federer needs just the one as Roddick can't lift over the net and Federer will serve for a two-set lead!

  15. 5-5 - A Federer ace right down the line sees this set go to 5-5.

  16. 5-4 - Roddick can't direct a volley at the net either side of Federer and the Swiss passes him. The three-times champion struggles to get anything else back over the net, though, and Roddick holds. This one is destined for a tie-break.

  17. 4-4 - An attempted Federer winner down the line is just the wrong side of the line. Roddick rattles off an outstanding forehand winner and it's 30-30. It'll take more than that to break the Swiis, though, and he swings in a serve that Roddick can only scoop into the crowd.

  18. 4-3 - A-Rod has one of those service games where the oppnent may as well be sat down grabbing a drink, as he fires off another set of serves that at best set him up for volleyed winners.

  19. 3-3 - Federer hasn't won 17 of the 19 matches between these two without good reason, and his topspun serves are a contant problem for the American.

  20. 3-2 - Roddick steams through his serve. He's recoevered well after a shaky start to the set, though it will take another step up in gear before he can challenge the Federer serve.

  21. 2-2 - An attempted forehand winner down the line from Roddick is met by a marvellous sliced backhand back down the line that leaves Roddick completely wrongfooted and he stumbles while watching the ball bounce past him! That point holds the Federer serve.

  22. 2-1 - Roddick defies Federer's attempted lob with a forehand smash volley at the net, but the Swiss replies with one of those cross-court backhands of his that look so effortless but are loaded with real power. Roddick recovers well and keeps this set on serve.

  23. 1-1 - In stark contrast, Federer holds his opening service game of the set with relative ease.

  24. 1-0 - Roddick opens the second set with an ace, but only with the help of Hawkeye. Another clean ace saves a Federer break point - A-Rod is living on the edge already in this set, but he eventually holds.

  25. 2-6 - Roddick can only return long to bring it back to deuce, but Federer mis-hits into the net for another break point - Federer swings an ace down the centre line to save it. Roddick finds the net and returns long and Federer takes the opening set!

  26. 2-5 - Roddick argues with the umpire during the whole changeover. He brings that venom on to the court with him and channels it to good use as he wrongfoots Federer at the net the smash a two-handed winner past him. He manages to save Federer's first set point and now has a breal point of his own...

  27. 2-5 - Federer unleashes a carbon copy of that last forehand on A-Rod's serve. He then hits a forehand into the top of the net - just as well for Roddick, who would have been hit in a sensitive area had the bal made it over! A Roddick ace sees him hold.

  28. 1-5 - Federer challenges an out call - he's right! The point is replayed, and another out is called for Federer. He challenges again - and gets it again! Roddick is not happy, he claims he let that second shot pass because of the call. A wonderfully dipping cross-court forehand from Federer sees him hold.

  29. 1-4 - Roddick hits a forehand into the net for 30-30, and then he fails to defend another break point when his backhand slice at the net fails to make it across! Federer has the double-break, and this set is virtually over before it's really begun.

  30. 1-3 - Roddick earns a breal point of his own with a clinical two-handed backhand return of serve that's just out of Federer's reach. The Swiss is on his second serve but his topspin delivery is too much for Roddick to attack. Federer rides out the danger and holds

  31. 1-2 - Federer takes the initiative with the first break of the match! A wonderful forehand drilled down the line and Roddick has no answer.

  32. 1-1 - No aces for Federer, but Roddick struggles to do much more than hit returns that set up the Swiss for quick winners. A long forehand from the baseline sees Federer hold to 15.

  33. 1-0 - A-Rod guns an ace past Federer to open the match, and delivers another before his love service game is over.
